Found out a few days ago that I passed my USMLE Step 3 exam!! ✨✨ This week has just been the gift that keeps on giving. So excited to be done with all the STEP exams for lyfe!! I found this exam to be easier because you know exactly what to expect from Prometric and the exam format so my prep time was only 2 months. I used UWORLD for Step 3 exclusively, and used CCS cases online to practice about 40 cases. I read like one page of First Aid before giving up lol I decided to take the exam now before residency because my current rotation in the UK (psychiatry) gave me a lot of time at work and there was a possibility of getting an H1B visa as well if I passed. It feels so good to be done before residency so would highly recommend this for anyone in the same boat. Now on to USMLE STEP 4 —> chillin’ and celebratin’ #usmlestep #usmlestep3 #usmleprep #usmlepreparation #usmlestep1 #usmlestep2ck #usmlemotivation #studyhacks #uworld #questionbank #onlinelearningplatform #step3 #matchresidency #residencylife #donewithexams #examseason #doctorblogger #difficultexam #examstress

MY STEP 3 STUDY STRATEGY ✨ • Remember my number one rule: what works for one person may not work for another… Take all advice with a grain of salt and do what works best for you! • BACKGROUND INFO: I took my STEP3 exam the last weekend of October of my intern year. I found that this was a good time to take it because it gave me enough time to learn how to be an intern and get situated in my new role, but still have some of the basic science info floating around in my head (there are questions similar to STEP1/2 on STEP3). I studied for 5 weeks total. My schedule at work during those 5 weeks was: floors, elective, clinic, floors, elective. • RESOURCES I USED: UWorld and CCS Cases — that’s it!! I didn’t have time for more resources since I was also working. • METHOD: for all 5 weeks, I did 20-30 questions a day. this was the first USMLE exam where I did NOT finish the question bank. for the first 3 weeks, I did questions in RANDOM, TIMED MODE and then reviewed the blocks at the end. I also dedicated some time each day to reviewing biostats because it is INCREDIBLY high yield for the first day of the exam (easily 5 questions per block). The exam is largely medicine, but you still need to know each specialty so I really focused on understanding the concepts of the questions that were not related to medicine. Since I was already at work, I went to lecture every day and read up on my patients while at work which helped me substantially in terms of reviewing for the medicine questions (reading is important because what you do in practice is NOT always the same as what you do in the hospital and you can get questions wrong if you just recall what you do on the wards). At the end of week 3, I took the UWorld self assessments back to back to simulate the length. I used this exam to guide me through my last 2 weeks of studying and focused on topics I sucked at. I also started doing CCS cases during my last 2 weeks and made mental checklist of what I needed to order for each simulation. Last 2 days, reviewed biostat again. Hope this helps! @uworldmedical • #step3 #usmlestep3 #usmleprep

⭐️Because I had such a strong base from my previous Step exams, I only spent about 1.5 months total studying for Step 3. ✨For the first month I did 20 UWorld questions per day while on an outpatient rotation. For the 2 weeks leading up to Date 1, I did about 80 Uworld questions per day, and completed the 2 Uworld practice tests. ✨I completed the Biostatistic review in UWorld, and made sure to complete all of the Biostatistics questions before test day! ✨I had 4 days between day 1 and day 2, and over that long weekend I crammed as many CCS cases as I could. I ended up doing about 50-60 CCS Cases during this time, which got me comfortable with the format and software. ✨If you’ve watched my prior videos, you might be surprised about how little I studied for the Step 3 exam. Since I’m already matched into a Dermatology residency, and much busier as an intern than I was as a medical student, my goal was simply to PASS step 3, and my studying reflected that. ✨If you haven’t yet matched into your desired specialty and are hoping to maximize your Step 3 score as much as possible, I would recommend trying to complete all of UWorld, plus the NBME practice exams, and completing all of the CCS cases to maximize your chances of scoring well! . . . #step3 #usmle #resident #doctor #medschool #medstudent #premed

Step 3 is the final step! 🎉 First of all, congratulations on finishing with the USMLE. Step 3 is not a mandatory exam before residency, I took it because I had the time, and you can also take it during residency. I will explain the details of Step 3 in another post. Now, let’s talk about the preparation. I think dedicated two months are enough, of course, if the step timelines are close to each other, it will be easier to remember the information. I started with UWorld and solved it regularly. One round is enough, as there are fewer UWorld questions compared to other steps. Then, while solving the second round, I reviewed my incorrect answers, took notes, and read them. UWorld is an incredible resource as always. Whenever I found free time, I listened to Divine, but I can’t say I found it very useful for Step 3, honestly, it was better for Step 2. One month before the exam, I started CCScases.com, the cases here are really perfect, I definitely recommend it. UWorld also has CCS questions, but I didn’t find them as useful. Two weeks before the exam, I joined a first aid review group and reviewed first aid from the beginning, which was incredibly beneficial, I recommend doing this in the last month. In the last two weeks, I solved the free 137 questions. This time, I didn’t solve NBME, but those who did say it’s useful. this was my process, it took 3-4 months for me because I was doing USCE and in the interview process. I hope it has been helpful. I would like to share my exam day experience in another post. 🧚‍♀️🤍 Remember to share with your friends who need this!💖 #usmle #usmlestep3 #usresidency #amerikadadoktorluk #medicine #studymed #step3 #ccs #uworld #nbme #study

After walking out of Day 1 of Step 3, I was convinced I had failed. I kept asking myself: “Why didn’t I just wait to take this exam later like everyone else?” I only got through 30% of UWorld. I took one practice test. And honestly, that’s far less preparation than I’d ever feel comfortable with during med school. On top of that, life threw some unexpected challenges my way leading up to my exam — and my priorities had to shift to things much more important than boards. That’s why the relief I felt opening this score report was unlike anything since Match Day. The weight lifted off my shoulders was unreal. And honestly, I’ve never been prouder to do slightly better than average given the circumstances with which I prepared for this exam. Sometimes “average” is a badge of honor when you know what it took to get there. I’m beyond grateful for this outcome, and I want to pass on some hope to anyone studying for Step 3 while also carrying the weight of life outside medicine: ✅ You don’t have to be “perfectly prepared.” ✅ Life doesn’t stop for exams — and that’s okay. ✅ You’re stronger than you think. Tonight, I’ll sleep lighter. Tomorrow at 6:30 AM, I’ll be back in the hospital, helping others with their own battles. And that perspective is everything. ❤️ 💬 For those who’ve taken Step 3 already — what’s the one tip you’d give to someone still preparing? #Step3 #USMLE #ResidentLife #DoctorLife #MatchDayFeels #ResidencyJourney #MedStudentToDoctor #StepExam #PhysicianLife #medstudent #residentphysician #residentdoctor

STEP3, the last of the USMLE exams. Much of the knowledge builds on what we’ve already learned for STEP1 and STEP2, but the challenge is studying during the intense schedule of residency. Here is exactly how I prepared for STEP3: 𝟖 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦: On busy inpatient rotations, it’s very difficult to find the time and energy to study. I did about 10-20 UWorld questions a day during my downtime and after work. If I fell behind, I tried to make up for it on my day off. 𝟔 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦: I ramped my studying up to 40 UWorld questions daily. 𝟒 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦: I had scheduled elective rotations to give myself more time to study. I increased my UWorld questions to 80 per day and started doing practice exams every other week and CCS cases daily. 𝟐 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦: I started my second pass of flagged questions and transitioned to 80-100 random, timed questions daily to simulate testing conditions. 𝟑 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦: started the Biostats and ethics blocks so they were fresh in my mind. Throughout this time, I made and reviewed flash cards daily and did 2 passes of the UWorld practice cases. I did not use ANY resources besides UWorld and Anki. Happy to answer any questions in the messages or comments! (Featuring the Nile River in Aswan, Egypt)
