There are many nice restaurants and cafes and so many shops for locals and some suited for tourists too which was interesting as tourism is so low here but it was all so great to see!😍

SHA few days ago I entered Libya from the Tunisia-Libya land border. Since the launch of the e-visa last month nobody had crossed by land and we weren’t sure if it was possible or not.
The flight is $100 vs the bus which was $30 so I figured I give it a shot.
In hindsight, I should have taken the local transport to the Tunisian border town and gone to the border early in the morning. Thanks @guma_dago for the hospitality since I’ve arrived.

LIGhadames is in the far south-west of Libya, near the border triangle with Tunisia and Algeria. 🇱🇾🇩🇿 🇹🇳
It’s about 600 km southwest of Tripoli by road.
🏛️ History & Heritage
Ghadames is one of North Africa’s oldest cities and was an important caravan stop on trans-Saharan trade routes.
It was historically occupied by Phoenicians, Romans (as Cydamus), and later Arabs.
The city’s old town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986 due to its unique desert urban layout and architecture, built to cope with the hot Sahara climate.
Recently, UNESCO removed the Old Town from the “World Heritage in Danger” list thanks to improved preservation efforts.
🏘️ What Makes Ghadames Special
Known as the “Pearl of the Desert” for its oasis setting and beautiful whitewashed traditional homes.
The Old Town has narrow interconnected alleys, multi-story mud-brick houses, and rooftop walkways that historically helped cool the interiors and create shaded public spaces.
Its architecture reflects clever adaptations to desert conditions and cultural traditions.

Old Town of Ghadames – core historic district and UNESCO site.
Atiq Mosque – one of the main historic mosques in Ghadames dating back centuries.
Ghadames Museum – archaeological museum featuring Berber and Roman-era artifacts.

Ghadames is also an oasis surrounded by date palms, gardens, and water springs that allowed it to thrive in the desert.
The city has historically blended Berber, Arab, and Saharan cultures.

Madīnah Qadīmah di Tripoli dinamakan demikian karena ia merupakan inti kota tertua dan awal mula terbentuknya Tripoli.
Kawasan ini menjadi pusat permukiman, perdagangan, dan kehidupan sosial sejak berabad-abad lalu, jauh sebelum kota berkembang ke wilayah modern.
Kata “madīnah” berarti kota atau pusat peradaban, sedangkan “qadīmah” berarti tua atau terdahulu.
