Here’s a slightly vulnerable post showing you a real life crack. It’s always shocking to me when it happens because I was never a cracky singer. When my voice changed, I didn’t have the awkward voice crack phase, it just moved down slowly.
Some singers experience more often than others but we will always have a day where it happens. So how do we manage it when it happens or we feel it coming on…
There will be times adrenaline will encourage you to push more air and bully the folds to stay together. In my instrument, if I push more air when this is happening… it’ll scream crack 🤣
It’s important to learn how to manage and balance breath pressure in real time so you can play to find and maintain the vibration.

He has a knack for writing tenor arias right in the most challenging part of the voice to navigate. It takes stamina, strength, and a lot of understanding about how to handle this part of the voice — and still have enough left to sing for another two hours!
In this particular role I’m working on, he also pushes the range of the voice to its absolute limits, throwing in a string of top Cs for good measure.… it’s a real test.
