How lab ranges are actually created 👇 When labs report a “reference range,” they are using a statistical model. ✔ A sample of 120+ “healthy” individuals ✔ Remove the top 2.5% and bottom 2.5% ✔ The middle 95% becomes the reference interval That range is designed to detect disease — not optimize health. It doesn’t account for: – symptom resolution – early dysfunction – metabolic resilience – individualized physiology So yes, your labs can fall inside the reference range… and you can still feel exhausted, inflamed, foggy, or stuck. Normal = statistically common. Optimal = functioning well. Those are not the same thing. Drop a 🙋‍♀️ if your labs were “normal” but you didn’t feel normal. #labs #health #functionalhealth

I don’t love “bad” lab results… but I do love what they give us. Because they finally say “you’re not crazy, and you’re not failing.” They validate the symptoms you’ve been dismissed for and they give us clear direction. Labs don’t define you. They show us where your body needs support, so we can stop guessing and start rebuilding. Have you ever been told your labs are “normal”… but you still don’t feel like yourself? I’ve been there too. Many people leave appointments feeling confused or frustrated. You’re tired. Your brain feels foggy. Your energy is low. Maybe your weight isn’t moving no matter what you try. But the labs are labeled “normal.” Here’s something most people aren’t told. Lab results are often reviewed one number at a time. But the body doesn’t work that way. When certain markers shift together, they can start to reveal patterns in the body related to things like: • blood sugar stress • metabolic strain • nutrient depletion • inflammation • detox stress On their own, each number may still fall inside the “normal” range. But when we look at them together, they can start telling a bigger story about what may be going on in the body. This is the perspective I use during Lab Pattern Review Sessions at Grow Your Health — looking for early signs of stress or dysfunction before they develop into bigger health problems. Because sometimes the answers aren’t in one number… they’re in the patterns. If you’re curious about learning how to better understand your labs, make sure to follow along. I’ll be sharing more about common lab patterns in upcoming posts. Almost every single client who comes to me says the same thing: “My doctor said all my labs look good.” Then they send them to me… and I beg to differ. Half the time the right labs weren’t even ordered in the first place (but that’s another story). The bigger issue? There’s a difference between conventional lab ranges and functional lab ranges. Conventional ranges are based on the average of the population — which includes a lot of people who are already sick or heading in that direction. Functional ranges look at what we typically see in truly healthy people and help us identify imbalances before they turn into disease. Because the goal isn’t to wait until something is broken. The goal is to understand what your body is telling us early so we can support things like: • blood sugar balance • nutrient deficiencies • hormone patterns • gut health • liver function • overall metabolic health Labs are one of the most powerful tools we have to understand what’s actually going on beneath the surface. If you’ve been told “everything looks normal” but you still feel exhausted, inflamed, bloated, or stuck with your health… there may be more to the story. ✨ If you’re ready to actually dig deeper and get answers, I’d love to help. “Normal” lab work just means that you’re functioning within the same range as most people that are getting tested within that lab. And since Americans in general are not the healthiest bunch normal doesn’t healthy or optimal - it means that you’re not any more sick than anyone else. YIKES!!! If you’re sick of being stuck in the “normal lab trap” and you’re ready for a deep dive into the inner workings of your body so you can restore your health to OPTIMAL and finally feel your best and reclaim your health book your free consultation via the link in my bio. #holistichealth #functionalmedicine #rootcause #lab #labwork

You’ve been told your labs are “normal”… but you still don’t feel like yourself? 👀 Here’s why 👇 Standard labs are designed to detect disease Comprehensive labs are designed to assess optimal function That means: ➡️ You can feel exhausted, gaining weight, dealing with brain fog, hormonal imbalances… ➡️ And STILL be told everything looks “fine” Because “normal” ≠ optimal Standard testing often: • Runs the bare minimum markers • Uses wide reference ranges • Misses early dysfunction Comprehensive (functional) testing: • Looks deeper at root causes • Evaluates optimal ranges—not just disease states • Connects the dots between symptoms + physiology If you’re not getting answers… it’s not in your head It’s in the labs that weren’t run ✨ Stop settling for “you’re fine” when you KNOW you’re not

Most people are told their labs are “normal.” But what many don’t realize is that those ranges are called reference ranges, and they’re created by averaging results from a large population. Those ranges can vary depending on the lab and the population they sampled, which means what’s considered “normal” in one lab may be slightly different somewhere else. In functional and integrative health, we often look at optimal ranges instead. These are tighter ranges that can sometimes help identify imbalances earlier and give us a better picture of how the body is actually functioning. So if you’ve ever been told “everything looks normal” but you still don’t feel your best… it may be worth taking a deeper look. If you’re interested in running labs and having them reviewed through both conventional and optimal ranges, send me a DM that says LABS and I’ll send you the details. — Chel Holistic Nutritionist | Restorative Health Practitioner #functionalnutrition #optimalhealth #bloodwork #labtesting holisticnutrition restorativewellness metabolichealth

Your labs are “normal,” but you feel like 🗑️? Let’s talk about why. Bloodwork is a snapshot. If your numbers fall within a massive “reference range,” you’re told you’re fine. But “fine” is the enemy of optimal. You have your own special lab range for optimal! The functional medicine approach doesn’t just look at isolated numbers; we look at patterns. 🧩 Think of your symptoms as the “check engine light.” If the light is on, it doesn’t matter if the gas tank is full—something under the hood needs attention. We connect the dots that others miss: The Energy Gap: A “normal” TSH but low Free T3? That’s a conversion issue, not a “lack of caffeine” issue. The Silent Burnout: Normal glucose but high fasting insulin? Your body is working overtime to stay “normal,” and it’s exhausting you. The Nutrient Drain: Low-normal B12 and Vitamin D? Your mitochondria are starving for the spark plugs they need to create energy. Symptoms are clues, not nuisances. ✨ Ready for a practitioner who listens to your story, not just your labs? Relying on “normal” lab ranges isn’t something I personally do as an Integrative Wellness Practitioner. And yes — that surprises people. Here’s why 👇 In my clinical experience, I’ve seen that “normal” doesn’t always mean optimal — especially for people dealing with fatigue, hormone shifts, weight gain, mood changes, or poor sleep. Standard lab ranges are designed to detect disease. They’re not designed to help you feel your best. When we rely on “normal” alone, it can: ✘ Miss early signs of imbalance ✘ Dismiss real symptoms ✘ Delay getting to the root cause There are better ways to approach your health. I’d rather: ✔️ Look at optimal ranges, not just reference ranges ✔️ Connect your symptoms to your lab data ✔️ Use testing as a tool to build a personalized plan Of course, individuality matters. Every body is different. Lab markers need context. But as a general rule? “Normal” isn’t where I stop looking. If you want steady energy, balanced hormones, and a clearer understanding of what’s actually going on in your body… Comment LABS I’ll send you our lab testing guide so you know where to start. #LabTesting #OptimalHealth #RootCauseHealth #HormoneHealth #EnergyReboot

If you’ve ever been told “everything looks normal” but you still feel like you’re dragging yourself through the day…you’re not crazy. Conventional labs are designed to diagnose disease. Functional labs are designed to catch dysfunction before it becomes disease. That means looking at: • Optimal vs. “in range” • Nutrient status • Thyroid conversion • Inflammation markers • Cortisol patterns You deserve more than “you’re fine.” ✨ I give you access to order functional labs directly through my LabShop.
