That house is now the heart of Cedar Rock State Park - be sure to sign up for a proper tour this weekend or this summer! Nearly everything at Cedar Rock bears the imprint of Frank Lloyd Wright. From the entire architectural structure of the house to the interior design, this Usonian style home is one of Wright’s most complete designs. The estate includes the only original Wright-designed boat pavilion still in existence. Iowa is home to ten Frank Lloyd Wright’s structures, and Cedar Rock is the only one with his coveted signature tile. Have you always wanted to visit the River Museum? Come check us out this week in celebration of National Travel & Tourism Week! All week long, there are various themes that are used to showcase the many great places we have in the state of Iowa! Today’s theme is ‘Then vs. Now’ to showcase where we started and where we are today. The original planning of the museum started in 1975. It first opened up with the National Historic Landmark, the William M. Black steamboat. In 1982, they opened the freight house, which was called the Fred W. Woodward Upper Mississippi Riverboat Museum, pictured in the first image! Over time, the River Museum raised around $54 million and underwent renovations thanks to donors, sponsors, and community members. It then reopened in 2003 as the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium, an @aamersofficial and @zoos_aquariums accredited facility. Today, the River Museum is the lead museum of the Dubuque County Historical Society! This year, we are celebrating 20 years since the River Museum reopened! Throughout the years we have experienced great success with visitors, employees, and the ability to educate individuals about conservation, history, animals, culture, and much more.
