if you own a dog, you NEED to know how to remove a tick! it’s October which means it’s false-tick-season-is-over month. if it’s not below freezing, ticks are OUT 🤢 you can obviously use other means to remove one, like tweezers or your fingers, but tick keys are handy af and cost like $10 and NOTE: preventives are a MUST but they don’t create an invisible shield around your pet. a lot of them work by poisoning the tick after it bites so if you find one, you can wait for it to fall off on its own but most recommend still pulling them when you see them tick removal | how to use a tick key | tick prevention | tick szn #australianshepherd #redtriaussie #puremichigan #tickprevention #michiganfall #tickszn #tickremoval #howto

this is what I have nightmares about 🥲⁠🤮 _____________________⁠ ⁠ QOTD: what do you use to keep the parasites away?⁠ ⁠ Apollo and Ares are both on K9 Advantix flea and tick preventative (and have been for years), and it's supposed to kill 𝘢𝘯𝘥 repel fleas, ticks, mosquitos 🙅🏻‍♀️ We never had issues with it, but now it just doesn't seem to be working like it used to 😭⁠ ⁠ In the last few years, this is the THIRD time Apollo has had an embedded tick now (not to mention the ones we've brushed off both dogs before they attached) - and I feel like we need to try something new because I can't have this keep happening 😵‍💫⁠ _______ P.S we didn't even go for a hike!! It’s a process but definitely worth it💯 We hike several times a week and in Northern California ticks are active year round. Protecting my dogs and my family from tick-borne diseases is super important to me and I most definitely won’t let these little creatures stop us from enjoying the outdoors! The @tick.mitt makes removing loose ticks from the dogs coat really easy and the dogs get an extra petting at the same time 😅 I use a metal comb and a pin brush to do a thorough check as well. How to safely remove a tick from your dog 🕷 Ticks are rife at this time of year, and aside from being disgusting little creatures, they can also transmit diseases. Some tick prevention treatments can take some time to kill ticks after they’ve attached so it’s advisable to check your dog daily for ticks even if they are treated for them. I obviously missed this tick as this is bigger than a one-day feeder 🤢 I only ever recommend the O’Tom tick twister (available from your vet, pet shops and online) as they remove the tick in one piece (this is NOT an ad, just a product I really love!) 😫This tick season has been wild! Every single time we’ve hit the trails lately, we’ve found ticks crawling on us and recently, I even spotted one on the steering wheel of my car. I have no idea how it got there, but let’s just say I’ve been vacuuming nonstop and checking everything like a hawk. 🕷️Here’s what you NEED to know to protect your family during tick season⬇️ 🧴Always use a tick-repellent spray before heading out. We love the clean, non-toxic one from @3momsorganics 🧦Wear tall socks and tuck your pants in it’s not the cutest look, but it helps keep ticks from latching on. 🥾Stick lint rollers or duct tape to your clothes after a hike like we did in this reel to catch any tiny hitchhikers. 👚Do full-body tick checks before getting into your car, when you get home, and in the shower. Don’t forget to check hairlines, waistbands, behind ears, and socks. IF YOU FIND A TICK⬇️ 🙈Remove it ASAP using fine-tipped tweezers. Grasp close to the skin and pull straight out without twisting. 🕷️Save the tick in a ziplock bag and send it for testing to sites like TickCheck.com or TickReport.com to find out if it’s carrying Lyme or other diseases. WATCH FOR SYMPTOMS: Flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, fatigue, joint pain) can be early signs of Lyme disease. If you’re concerned, skip the basic Western Blot test and ask your doctor about more accurate testing through labs like IGeneX. 😳Trust me, even if you never see a tick on your body, it doesn’t mean it wasn’t there.
