KEGrowing up, my dad, a steelworker, introduced me to Toastmasters. It's more than just a club—it's a community where once a week, everyone takes a turn at the podium to hone their public speaking skills through various types of speeches.
In a full-circle moment, Toastmasters recently honored me with their Golden Gavel Award—recognized as the top speaker worldwide. It's humbling, especially when you think of past recipients like Deepak Chopra and Tony Robbins.
I remember, as I accepted the award, tears filled my eyes. I just wished my dad could have been there in the front row, watching. He's since passed, but that moment was a poignant reminder of the power of practice.
To anyone who fears public speaking, my advice is simple: practice relentlessly. It's the practice that builds confidence, sharpens your message, and ultimately, can lead to moments you once only dreamed of.
