WII was very lucky that day….. Started off the first lap on TF and all felt fine.
Warming up the car and tyres.. about 3 minutes into the lap it was pretty heavy traffic so I was making my way through with a G80 M4 behind me following along at average pace.
Out of nowhere the rear end went mid corner and make me think I’d hit coolant. Next corner same again but much worse, with the G80 also onto the grass and nearly in the barrier! With a cloud of dust behind me..
Had no indication or idea at all it was my car (no smoke, no steam, no misted screen, no errors on the dash) but pulled in immediately as my first thought was a loose wheel (which made no sense as there was no noise).
As soon as I stopped, coolant light comes on. I feel terrible and can only apologise to the guy who had a very near big bill in front of him and a smashed up G80!
Luckily the yellows were put on very quickly, people had seen what was happening and slowed down. But it’s one of them things, the odds are against you that more laps you do.
For clarity: my car is checked every time before it goes out, it’s constantly having bolt checks, by others also to ensure things at right if I or others have worked on it. I try so hard not to have issues, but some days you do.
Huge lesson learnt for me. This year I will be using motorsport coolant which is less slippy for this exact reason.
Keep safe out there boys and girls and do your checks and still keep an eye on everything whilst it warms up once you’ve had work done. If something doesn’t feel right, come off straight away and get it checked!
