Here are a few other ways that trauma symptoms manifest into our day-to-day lives. These symptoms can also be caused because of other reasons & are not all solely trauma-related. Gaps in memory may occur potentially as a way for your brain to protect you from re-experiencing the emotions & body sensations from the trauma. Hypersensitivity to noise may occur due to being overstimulated from the impact of the trauma. Loud noises may be something that you fear (i.e., auditory flashbacks) or a way for your nervous system to communicate its limits. Traumas impact our levels of patience & ways we cope. If we don’t have tools for our emotions, we may become more irritable. But, increased irritability can arise because our environment may not be supportive during your trauma recovery. Difficulty relying on others may occur because traumas are unpredictable events in most cases, and affects our level in trust in others- creating an expectation & belief that we can only trust ourselves. *Please note that there are many reasons why these symptoms may manifest outside of what I mentioned above^* #latinxtherapy #trauma #ptsd #mentalhealth

THIS IS JUST A CHAPTER — NOT THE WHOLE STORY Breathe, girl. You don’t need to be okay every day. You don’t need to explain the pain. And you don’t have to pretend the chaos feels normal. This part is heavy… but it isn’t the ending. You are healing — and healing is still progress. So pause. Cry. Feel it. Then gently remember who you are and keep going. You’re not falling apart. You’re being rebuilt in quieter, softer, truer ways. ⋅⋅⋅ Follow @SavageMindsetEra for gentle reminders that your healing is still sacred, even when it’s slow. #HealingIsPersonal #BurnoutRecovery #GentleReminder #EmotionalHealing #SoftButSavage [healing, burnout, emotional healing, grief support, soft healing, mental wellness, self worth, quiet strength, personal growth, inner peace, trauma recovery, journal prompts, healing journey, women healing, emotional support, self love, reflection, nervous system healing, safe space, creator healing]

Here's a short clip from the latest @languageoflovepodcast session, where I chat with a caller who is going through a tough divorce and grappling with a challenging relationship with her narcissistic mother. One of the many things we discuss is how hard it is to recognize safety and truth in others when you are a codependent. Andi almost everyone raised by a narcissist is! We get into her struggles with codependency and anger regulation, which she believes are deeply rooted in her traumatic upbringing. We discuss: 🙇 How unresolved childhood trauma can affect an individual’s parenting style 🙅🏼‍♀️ The importance of self-preservation and creating distance from toxic individuals 🚩 The “splitting” behavior and manipulation tactics used by borderlines ❤️‍🩹 How to use somatic experiencing for trauma recovery Tap the link in my bio to listen to the full episode now.

This video popped up in my iPhone memories this week from 4 years ago at this time and it was a great reminder of the impact seemingly small gestures can have on trauma recovery. ⁣ ⁣ When I first woke up after my AFE, my memories were few and far between. I didn’t remember our move a month prior or our new house. I didn’t remember a single OBGYN appointment from the 9 months I was pregnant. It’s absolutely terrifying to not be able to remember large chunks of time or what important things look like. When I realized I couldn’t remember what our house looked like, I panicked. I felt like something must have happened to my brain and I would never be the same again. ⁣ ⁣ My husband sent this video to me while I was still in the ICU to remind me what our house looked like. I instantly recognized the house and was flooded with relief to know that my brain wasn’t completely broken. It gave me hope that some of my other memories would return as well.⁣ ⁣ This is an example of how the tiniest things can feel the most supportive for someone experiencing a traumatic birth. We need validation for how difficult it is, but also the confidence that it will eventually be okay. ⁣ ⁣ What are some of the seemingly small gestures during your recovery that had a massive impact?⁣ ⁣ #birthtrauma #traumaticbirth #partnersupport #partnertrauma #birthtraumaeducation #perinataltrauma #perinataltraumatherapist #perinataltraumasupport #perintalmentalhealth

🗒 notes on forgiveness & trauma recovery: stop telling traumatized people to forgive their abusers. forgiveness is not a compulsory component of recovery. when it’s needed, it’ll happen organically. don’t force people to forgive just so they can meet your expectations of what it is to move forward. if that makes you uncomfortable, use it as an opportunity to explore why that might be 🌱 —— #forgiveness #relationaltrauma #traumarecovery #relationshipadvice

Dance therapy, also known as dance/movement therapy (DMT), can be an effective method for healing trauma. It integrates the physical, emotional, and cognitive aspects of individuals through movement. Here are several ways dance therapy can aid in trauma recovery: 1. **Expression of Emotions**: Trauma often involves repressed or overwhelming emotions. Dance therapy provides a safe space for individuals to express these emotions non-verbally, which can be particularly beneficial for those who struggle to articulate their feelings. 2. **Body Awareness and Control**: Trauma can disrupt one's relationship with their body, leading to dissociation or a sense of disconnection. Dance therapy helps individuals reconnect with their bodies, increasing awareness and control, which can reduce feelings of powerlessness. 3. **Release of Tension**: Physical movement in dance can help release tension stored in the body due to trauma. This release can lead to a reduction in symptoms such as anxiety, hypervigilance, and muscle tension. 4. **Mind-Body Integration**: Trauma can fragment the mind-body connection. Dance therapy promotes the integration of physical and mental processes, fostering a sense of wholeness and coherence in one's identity. 5. **Grounding and Presence**: Engaging in movement helps individuals stay present in the moment, which can be grounding and calming. This presence can counteract the flashbacks or dissociation often associated with trauma. 6. **Safe Space for Exploration**: Dance therapy offers a safe environment where individuals can explore movements, sensations, and feelings without judgment. This exploration can lead to new insights and a sense of safety and trust. 7. **Building Resilience and Empowerment**: Through mastering new movements and expressing themselves through dance, individuals can build resilience and a sense of empowerment. This can help them feel more capable of handling stress and overcoming challenges. Overall, dance therapy provides a holistic approach to trauma recovery, addressing both the physical and psychological aspects of healing. Would you consider dance therapy?
