From losses to lasting impact Before adopting improved practices, Sharon Keter, a Village-Based Advisor working with FIPS Africa, faced significant post-harvest losses—storing seed in sacks exposed to rain, leading to rot and poor quality. Today, through training and the use of Diffused Light Storage (DLS), her story has completely changed. ✅ Uniform sprouting ✅ Safe storage (50–70 bags) ✅ No losses from rotting ✅ Clean, disease-free seed With better seed management and continuous production cycles, Sharon now confidently supplies quality seed to farmers—building both her income and reputation. Her journey is a powerful example of how the right knowledge and technology can transform livelihoods. She now empowers other farmers through training and practical demonstrations. Sharon credits her success to FIPS Africa, whose support and training have played a key role in her transformation. On March 6, 2026, we visited cooperatives in Mponela and Ntchisi, and held sessions with them, enabling them to share the challenges they have faced since establishing their cooperatives. AgriTrust was welcomed with a good turnout of cooperative chairs representing their groups. Each of the chairs introduced their cooperatives and shared the challenges they have encountered over the years. They were eager to learn how they can trust us with our objectives and the support we are willing to offer. Some of the challenges addressed included low farm gate prices, harsh weather conditions, lack of farm inputs, and offtakers defaulting on agreements. The challenges addressed align with AgriTrust's core purpose. Our vision and mission is to support and empower farmers across Malawi. AgriTrust assured the farmers of our commitment to supporting them. This engagement reinforced AgriTrust's dedication to addressing key challenges facing Malawian farmers, enabling them to register and access farm inputs loans.

Transforming Seed Systems Through Innovation and Local Leadership Diffused Light Store (DLS) is enabling smallholder farmers to access clean, disease-free seed while building sustainable local enterprises. Through this approach, Richard Cheruiyot, a dedicated DSM and Village-Based Advisor has grown from 1,000 to 2,000 apical cuttings (valued at KSh 20,000), producing quality seed potato for farmers within his community. Specializing in Shangi varieties, he is now able to produce up to 4 tons of seed across two cycles, demonstrating the scalability of decentralized seed systems. Beyond production, he plays a key role in knowledge transfer—hosting farmers on his farm and training them on crop management, seed selection, and storage practices to drive wider adoption. Over 100 bags have already been supplied to Marishoni, with distribution ongoing. Impact: • Increased access to quality seed • Improved farmer productivity and incomes • Strengthened local seed systems and food security This is a clear example of how training, innovation, and farmer-led extension can drive sustainable agricultural transformation. #FIPSAfrica #SeedSystems #FoodSecurity #AgriInnovation #SmallFarmsBigFutures
