Running Wild: Cheetahs and More is now OPEN! In this Reel series, you'll get to know the animals of the newly opened habitats that celebrate the amazing adaptations and resiliency of wildlife. First up: two white-nosed coatis named Goose and Acacia! Acacia is a young female who will celebrate her first birthday on May 17, and Goose, a male, will turn two on April 6. Hannah from their animal care team is here to introduce you to them! Have you ever heard of a coati? Here are a couple of fun facts about them! ➣ There are four species of coati, which are part of the raccoon family. They are mainly found in Central and South America, but white-nosed coatis' range extends up to southern parts of Arizona and New Mexico. They are a protected species here! ➣ Their flexible ankles can rotate 180 degrees, enabling them to climb down trees head first! Check the hashtag #RunningWildResidents to meet them all!

Next up is long-time BioPark resident Monte the mountain lion, or cougar, or puma, or... Did you know? This species, scientific name Puma concolor, holds the Guiness World Record for the mammal with the most names. In English alone, there are over 40 recognized common names. This is in part because they have the widest native range of any land mammal in the Western Hemisphere. Another fun fact: even though they are the fourth largest feline species, mountain lions are NOT considered "Big Cats". That refers to felines in the genus Panthera. Mountain lions are the closest relative of the cheetah, another large "small" cat! Check the hashtag #RunningWildResidents to meet them all!

World Wolverine Day was established by the Carnivore Conservation Compendium to raise awareness of an often elusive mammal that plays an important role in their high-latitude alpine and boreal habitats, as a species that indicates a healthy, balanced ecosystem. By scavenging carrion, they contribute to the breakdown and recycling of nutrients, and reduce the spread of disease spread by eating carcasses. The pair had a great time playing, exploring and being altogether rambunctious…afterwards, it was time for a needed nap! #sfzoo #wolverine
