🧘‍♀️ Don’t Skip Shavasana! Here’s why: 💤 Shavasana (Corpse Pose/ lying down flat) is normally done at the end of yoga practice but you can also do it whenever you wish throughout the day, especially before you sleep. 3–10 minutes in Shavasana can: ✔️ Reduce anxiety ✔️ Improve sleep ✔️ Boost mood ✔️ Lower blood pressure ✔️ Anchor you in stillness and presence So next time you’re tempted to roll up your mat early… stay. 🖤 #yoga #yogateacher #yogapractice #lifestyle #shavasana

I don’t share my yoga practice as much as I used to, but I’m still practicing two to three times a week. Arm balances aren’t as central as they once were. After I tore my rotator cuff, I had to shift things. I’m bringing them back, slowly and on my terms. They don’t feel like they did in my 50s. That’s just the truth. And doing them in cold Denver weather? My body notices. I’ve always moved better in warmth. In the cold I’m tighter, stiffer, and I need more time to warm up than I used to. At 62, my body feels different than it did at 58, even though I lift weights three times a week, walk every day, and practice yoga regularly. Staying consistent doesn’t mean everything feels easy. When you see an older woman doing something that looks “crazy,” don’t assume it’s effortless. Many of us are working around aches, old injuries, and the normal wear and tear of living in our bodies for decades. I also know that when I sit too long at my laptop or spend hours in a car or on a plane, I stiffen up fast. So I choose movement. Not because it’s comfortable, but because it keeps me capable. You don’t have to do arm balances at any age. But I do believe in moving your body regularly and challenging it in some way. That’s how we keep our mobility as the years add up. Want strength and control in your yoga practice? Here you go: 1️⃣ Isolate your strength training - do sets and repetitions of key movements such as pushups, L-sit lifts, and Lolasana lifts. 2️⃣Slow your flow - so many vinyasa classes move so quickly, you barely have time to focus on each pose and movement. Slow it down. Hold the damn poses. 3️⃣ Become obsessed with Handstands - handstands will train your full body strength. The are playful, fun and you won’t realize how that strength transfers. 4️⃣ Increase your flexibility - tightness means you are wasting your strength. It takes 10x more effort for a muscle-bound person to do strength based movements than someone with high flexibility. 5️⃣ Consistency - Rome wasn’t built in a day. You have to train regularly for at least 3-6 months to see noticeable improvements. Comment what you want to know next? Have that “going with the flow” feeling after yoga? In the modern world, it’s easy to move through the day pushing, hurrying, trying to stay in control. When something slows us down or doesn’t go to plan, we meet it with resistance. Over time, that can create tension—mentally and physically. Yoga offers another way. Through practice, we can begin to soften our grip and explore īśvara praṇidhāna (surrender to the divine)—allowing us to meet the moment with presence and acceptance. If your yoga practice has ever helped you feel this way, pass this along. Thanks to @michaelboyyd for this gentle reminder. Nature really knows how to go with the flow 🦭
