Ada Lovelace, 1843. She did not promise magic, she showed method: if the rules are clear, a machine can manipulate symbols from any domain, even compose music. The spark was giving shape to thought. Since then, computing became a lens. Turing formalized the computable. Shannon measured information. The FFT powers streaming and MRI. Graphs and PageRank showed that relevance is born from connections. Computer vision helps medical triage. AlphaFold shortens paths in biology. NLP reads mountains of documents. Molecular simulation anticipates the wet lab. Computational thinking, far beyond the code editor. That is why, even with low level commoditized and AI completing functions, CS is more valuable. It is not memorizing syntax. It is framing the right problem, choosing structures that fit in your head and in the machine, reasoning about complexity, understanding p95 latency, designing interface contracts that survive reality, keeping invariants under pressure. Turning black boxes into APIs. If you work in tech and feel stuck firefighting, remember the why. You do not write to please the linter. You write to move the needle. Ada did not promise magic, she showed method. Today the black box became an API and you have pencil and ruler to redraw what truly hurts. Name the pain, define the contract, ship version 0.1, turn on telemetry and learn live. There will be 2am silence, tests that fail, doubt that hits hard. Remember why you started. It was never about syntax, it was about impact. The machine repeats. You give meaning. Take authorship now. Which bug in your world will you fix today so that tomorrow the machine scales your courage and someone on the other side says that was exactly what I needed? #adalovelace #computerscience #programming #computationalthinking #softwareengineering #algorithms #distributedsystems #ai #data #product #innovation Credits: @20vchq

Ada Lovelace was born into an extraordinary family. Her father was the famous poet Lord George Byron, and her mother, Anne Isabella Noel, was a highly gifted mathematician — Byron called her „the Princess of Parallelograms.“ Lord Byron was a brilliant but deeply flawed man, and, as it turned out, a terrible husband and father. He had hoped for a son, and Ada’s birth disappointed him. Their marriage lasted just over a year, and Ada never met her father. To counteract what she saw as Ada’s „dangerous“ inheritance from Byron, her mother emphasized a strict education in music, French, and especially mathematics — a subject Ada grew to love. In 1833, Ada Lovelace met mathematician Charles Babbage, who had designed a calculating machine called the Difference Engine. Inspired by his prototype, Ada became his lifelong friend and collaborator. Babbage soon moved on to a more ambitious project — the Analytical Engine, an early mechanical computer. In 1843, Ada translated a French paper by Italian mathematician Luigi Menabrea about the Analytical Engine. She also added thousands of words of her own notes. In her notes, Ada realized that the machine could carry out complex sequences of operations — far beyond simple calculations. One example she wrote — how to compute Bernoulli numbers — is considered by computer historians to be the first computer program. Even more visionary, Ada suggested the machine could work not just with numbers but with things like musical notes — foreseeing the idea of a general-purpose computer. Sadly, society recognized Ada Lovelace’s genius only long after her death from uterine cancer in 1852. Despite ongoing debates among historians about the extent of her contributions, Ada is widely celebrated today as the world’s first computer programmer and a pioneer of computer science. In 1980, the U.S. Department of Defense developed a programming language for military use and named it ADA in her honor. Since 2009, the second Tuesday of October has been celebrated as Ada Lovelace Day, highlighting the outstanding achievements of women in STEM fields and recognizing their vital role in shaping technology.

Did you know the first programmer in history was a woman? 🤯 Long before modern computers existed, Ada Lovelace imagined a machine that could do more than just calculations. She wrote the first-ever algorithm for a computer that hadn’t even been built yet. At a time when technology didn’t even exist like today… she was already thinking about coding, logic, music, and creativity through machines. That’s not just intelligence — that’s vision. 💡 If you’re learning programming today, remember… you’re continuing a journey that started 200 years ago. 🚀 Start learning. Start building. Your future in tech begins now. #womenintech #programminglife #techcareers #facts #TechFacts

Did you know the first computer was technically made by weaving? And the first algorithm ever written? That was in 1843 – by none other than Ada Lovelace, the world’s first computer programmer. We celebrate Ada Lovelace, by honoring the visionary who saw that machines could do more than calculate – they could create. She imagined looping, logic and the endless possibilities that would one day define modern computing. At CC, Ada’s legacy lives on through Nanna Debois Buhl’s woven code in Atmospheric Omens, part of the group exhibition Soft Robots. Here, lines of programming become intricate textiles/tapestries stretching from floor to ceiling – a poetic echo of Lovelace’s weaving of numbers into imagination.   Watercolour, Ada Lovelace, possibly by A E Chalon (1780-1860), [c1840]. 25 x 18.3 cm.
