ADHD isn’t broken focus.
It’s a brain trying to survive information overload.👇 If you have ADHD, your brain doesn’t calmly go
“this matters” → keep
“this doesn’t” → discard. Instead, everything shows up at the same volume. The main idea.
A side note.
A random example.
A sentence that might be important. All equally loud. So highlighting isn’t really about emphasis.
It’s triage. Your brain going:
“Please… just let me remember something.” Here’s the part most people don’t understand:
ADHD is closely tied to limited working memory. Which creates this constant background fear while reading:
“If I don’t mark this now, it’s gone.” Highlighting also sneaks in a dopamine hit:
• a small physical action
• instant visual feedback
• the feeling of progress So you end up:
✔️ highlighting most of the page
✔️ feeling productive
✔️ finishing the chapter
❌ remembering almost nothing That’s not laziness.
That’s a coping strategy. If highlighting feels automatic, don’t try to stop it - contain it. What works better for ADHD brains: 1️⃣ The one-sentence rule
After a paragraph, write ONE sentence in your own words.
No highlighting until that sentence exists. 2️⃣ Question-based highlighting
Only mark text that answers:
“Why does this matter?”
“How would I explain this to someone else?” 3️⃣ Color = function (not vibes)

🔵 example
🔴 test-relevant If you can’t explain why it’s highlighted… don’t highlight it. But also don’t feel bad for highlighting a bit more..that’s just how your brain works 💙

👉Do you want to manage your ADHD? Comment 𝐀𝐃𝐇𝐃 and I’ll DM you the link to the most powerful app for ADHDers. We don’t like waiting. We don’t like rules. We don’t like… instructions 🙃 Our brain craves dopamine, not step-by-step. And sometimes? That chaos leads to brilliance. Other times? Just… a very messy kitchen. But it’s not your fault — it’s how our ADHD brains are wired. And that’s why we built Univi ADHD App 💜 ✨ By ADHDers. For ADHDers. Inside you’ll find: ✅ A free ADHD test ✅ Simple, effective tools for impulsivity & executive functions ✅ Tiny daily boosts that help you feel more in control (without killing your vibe) 👇 Comment 𝐀𝐃𝐇𝐃 and I’ll DM you the link. ADHD is often misunderstood as having “no filter,” but that’s not what’s happening. The ADHD brain struggles with inhibition, the ability to pause before speaking or acting. Thoughts move faster than the brain’s braking system can handle. Strong emotions make this worse. Working memory makes it urgent. Dopamine makes speaking feel regulating. So the words come out raw, unedited, and honest before reflection arrives. That’s why ADHD people often replay conversations later and think, why did I say that. It’s not a personality flaw. It’s a timing problem in the nervous system. Person explaining why people with ADHD often speak without a filter, describing delayed inhibition, impulsivity, and emotional intensity as neurological causes. #ADHD, #AdultADHD, #Neurodivergent, #ADHDBrain, #Impulsivity, ExecutiveDysfunction, Neurodiversity, ADHDAwareness, MentalHealthEducation

Why are ADHDers so clumsy? It’s not carelessness. ADHD impacts executive functions - including coordination, spatial awareness, and attention. 👉 Your brain is constantly jumping between stimuli, so your body can miss small details… like where the table actually is. How to reduce clumsiness with ADHD: • Slow down transitions (rushing = more accidents) • Keep spaces minimal (less objects = fewer collisions) • Use “pause before move” (1-second check before standing/walking) • Don’t multitask while moving (this is a big one) If this is you… you’re not broken. Your brain just works differently 💜 Follow us for more ADHD tips & comment ADHD and I’ll send you a free test. @unique_adhd @unique_adhd @unique_adhd #adhdawareness #adhd #adhdwomen #adhdproblems #adhdsupport

ADHD student brains do not work like neurotypical brains. So discipline, rigid routines and consistency will not work for you in the same way. 🙅🏽‍♀️ Try this: 1️⃣ Watch a visually stimulating video about the topic you’re about to study 2️⃣ Read through each section and explain it back to yourself out loud 3️⃣ Write notes that mirror exam questions These are all forms of active learning.
