In 1924, Adolf Dassler and his brother Rudolf Dassler ran a small shoe company in Germany. They made shoes for athletes and cared about performance.
Their shoes became famous when Jesse Owens wore them at the 1936 Summer Olympics and won four gold medals.
After World War II, the brothers stopped getting along. They argued about life and business. They could not work together anymore.
In 1948, they split the company.
Adi started Adidas.
Rudi started Puma.
Both brands stayed in the same small town. People in the town picked sides. Some supported Adidas. Others supported Puma. Even stores and sports teams chose one brand.
