Backyard pool days in Southwest Florida come with a different kind of reality. Crystal blue water. Quiet afternoon. Naples neighborhood calm. Then the surface moves. Alligators are native to Florida and commonly travel through canals, lakes, and even residential communities during warmer months. In Collier County and across Naples, wildlife sightings are part of everyday life, especially near water. Moments like this are why locals say living in paradise comes with wild neighbors. Florida wildlife does not follow fences. It follows instinct. Naples Florida. Backyard pool. American alligator. Another reminder that in the Gulf Coast, nature is never far away. #NaplesFlorida #FloridaWildlife #Alligator #SouthwestFlorida #CollierCounty

Believe it or not, they live in America! The only place in the world where you can find both crocodiles and alligators is in South Florida. The Everglades national park region is home to both animals and a great place to see them. To distinguish the two, alligators have a more U-shaped snout while crocodiles have a more pointed or V-shaped one. Male crocodiles are larger than females and can reach about 20 feet in length but rarely exceed 14 feet in the wild. The largest American crocodile ever recorded in the wild is “Croczilla”, a 14-foot-long crocodile spotted in the Florida Everglades, but there might be a bigger one! Keep your eye out for them if you ever go down there. They will definitely have their eye on you!🐊 • • • #alligator #crocodile #everglades #florida

Florida’s coastal habitats are some of the most beautiful and unpredictable environments in North America. The mangrove shorelines, tidal creeks, and quiet backwater channels around Naples create a landscape that looks calm at first glance, but every local knows how much life is moving just beneath the surface. Encounters between people and wildlife are rare, but the sudden appearance of an alligator is a reminder of how quickly the natural world can shift from peaceful to powerful. Moments like this show why Floridians treat the water with deep respect. An alligator can stay hidden in only a few inches of murky depth, waiting silently until movement or vibration brings it to the surface. Their speed at close range is not a myth. It is a survival trait shaped by millions of years of evolution in the wetlands and estuaries that once covered most of the state. Naples may be known for calm beaches, luxury living, and quiet boardwalks, but the ecosystems surrounding the city are still wild at their core. Mangrove nurseries shelter fish, birds, crabs, and reptiles. The same mangroves also provide perfect cover for an alligator that chooses to travel or hunt along brackish shorelines. Residents learn early that any body of water, even one that looks peaceful, can hold wildlife. This understanding is part of living in Florida. Respect for the environment is woven into the culture here, especially in Southwest Florida where conservation and coastal awareness are major parts of local life. Alligators are not villains. They are apex predators that help maintain balance in the landscape. When humans and wildlife cross paths, it is a reminder that Naples sits on the edge of a living ecosystem that existed long before the city did. Florida teaches awareness, patience, and humility. The water is beautiful, but never empty. Every splash, every ripple, and every shadow under the surface holds a story about the natural world that surrounds us. #NaplesFlorida #FloridaWildlife #Alligators #Nature #OnlyInFlorida

What can you compare to describe that POP sound? Jazmine the Slender Snouted Crocodile is known to have an intense “Jaw Pop” when eating. The slender snouts make the sound a lot different than alligators & other crocodiles. What do you think that sounded like? @wildfloridairboats #reptile #reptiles #animals #crocodiles #orlando

A giant alligator caused a significant traffic standstill on Highland Road near LSU, blocking both lanes for about 40 minutes. Witnesses were stunned as bystanders laughed and filmed the unusual sight, while law enforcement attempted to coax the reptile away. Eventually, the gator made its way back to the water, leaving everyone relieved. A lot of people keep asking how I make these. Naples Florida driveway encounter with a massive alligator caught on security camera. This is real Southwest Florida life where wildlife moves through suburban neighborhoods without warning. Collier County residents know that canals, lakes, and retention ponds mean alligators can show up anywhere, even during a normal family moment. Florida living comes with palm trees, sunshine, and unexpected wildlife encounters right outside your home. 🐊🌴 #NaplesFlorida #NaplesFL #SouthwestFlorida #CollierCounty #FloridaAlligator

“Alligators are Territorial & Aggressive!” There is some truth to that BUT, it is not like they are always at war because of it. In fact, many alligators can co-exist with few issues under human care & in captivity. It is all dependent on the season, resources, & personality of each individual. I have worked with gators which are “Bullies” that push any other alligator away. I also experience Gator piles like the one on this reel where a bunch of gators bask together respectfully. Others, a little too close 🤣🐊. @wildfloridairboats #alligator #gators #alligators #reptile #reptiles

Can Alligators/Crocodiles run 30 mph? Alligators & Crocodiles average around 11 mph maximum speed in very short bursts (often 1-2 seconds). They are not built for land speed which is why they have extremely short legs. You may be asking, what about the Cuban Crocodile which gallops on land like a horse? Well, they gallop on land like a mammal would but, their legs are STILL too short to run at high speeds & they lack stamina to run for long periods of time (usually a few seconds per burst). The average human can run 12-15 mph which is a lot faster than any crocodilian & for a lot longer. Meaning that the chances of a person out running a crocodilian is close to 100%. If they can’t…….. then maybe it was their time to go. @wildfloridairboats
