What does that F-stop mean on your camera?
The lower the F stop, the more “open” your lens is and lets in more light. This makes your image brighter as well as increases “the depth of field” meaning items that are NOT your subject become blurry. So if you want more things in focus besides your subject use a higher aperture number. If you want less in focus then use a lower aperture. ALSO, increasing your aperture will make your image darker.
I had to rack up my ISO here as my F-stop went higher to try and balance the image, so it doesn’t look as great but you get the idea

HOWe’re all familiar with the effects of aperture on creating depth of field, but focus distance plays an equally crucial role. In this video, I demonstrate how focus distance affects depth of field using an aperture setting of f/1.2 on a full-frame 50mm lens. You’ll notice how the depth of field increases as the focus distance increases.
Focus distance refers to the distance between the camera lens and the point where the camera sharply focuses on an object or subject in the scene. It’s the specific distance at which objects appear most sharply in focus within the camera’s depth of field. This distance varies depending on the lens’s focal length, aperture setting, and the distance between the camera and the subject.
Keep in mind for your next shoot that the distance of your subject from the camera significantly affects depth of field. Aperture value isn’t the only factor influencing your image.
Understanding these aspects can greatly enhance your videography or photography skills, helping you make better scene decisions and capture beautiful moments or videos.
