TOI don't know why, other than being down in Moab for the last few years, I kept saying these were done by the Fremont people when I should have been saying the Desert Archaic people. Don't get me wrong, both of their rockart are fascinating and there are actually Fremont petroglyphs out here in this area as well (I've seen and made videos of a few pictographs I've posted) but the Archaic ones like this spiral were made thousands of years before the Fremont. I've read studies and expert opinions say they could be anywhere from 3000 to 8000 years old. I've even read a few people say they think they could be older than 8000 and closer than 10,000 years old. We don't know exactly and are educated guesses.
If anyone wants to go see or find some with me in the next week, let me know. That could be fun, but I'll have to blindfold you there. 🤣
The ancient spiral is something that was used as rockart all over the world for thousands and thousands of years. It is a symbol that has many meanings like marking a way of direction, water source, creation story, birth, solar calendar, etc.
I often have people from different parts of the country that will comment saying that it means *insert what they say* cause that's what their tribe teaches or have learned. I mean, I guess it could, but the use of the spiral was not universal and has probably changed who knows have many times over the course of many millenias.
This particular spiral has 8 rings. The start of it almost looks like this >-- whether that was intentional or a mistake.
What do you think this meant? Why do you think ancient people from all over the world commonly used this symbol? Are they connected or a mere coincidence? Archaic, also known as Kostas Kanlis, was born in Greece and began his musical career in the early 1990s. Today, after more than 30 years of activity, with numerous projects and releases, he stands as an inspiration and a reason why many people fall in love with psychedelic trance music.
Archaic’s musical journey traces back to the punk era of the 1980s, and later to the first underground rave culture of the late ’80s. He fell in love with psychedelic trance in the early ’90s after experiencing a couple of “summers of love” and underground parties in England.
Around 1996, he began experimenting and composing his own music, both solo and with friends, creating tracks that exist only on DAT tapes.
