Thompson died on 29 January 2010 in Wardak Province, Afghanistan, when he was shot by an Afghan interpreter during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. CPT Thompson was a Detachment Commander in 3rd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group when he was killed. This was his third deployment in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
