This opening-day classic was inspired by the 1950s freeway boom, which was basically Disney asking, “What will roads look like in the future?”
And the sleek original cars? They weren’t off-the-shelf. Bob Gurr designed them from scratch, inspired by European sports cars like Ferrari and Porsche.
The ride was such a hit, it expanded across Disney parks worldwide, with multiple versions and even a water-based spin-off!
Not bad for a ride that’s been letting guests “drive” since '55.
