The first part of the backswing is driven more by the movement of the shoulders, not by lifting the club up with the hands. If you do this correctly, there is not much wrist angle created in the takeaway yet. The real wrist angle develops later, during the transition and the initial move down. This is where the wrists set naturally as a reaction to the body movement, not because you force them. That wrist angle is what allows you to store the energy created by the body. It stays stable through the early downswing and helps carry that energy into the strike, where it is finally released into the ball. Short and quick? Try this feel! A full turn to the top of the backswing can be a game changer for a lot of players. When I hear someone say they got “quick” or the swing was “too fast”…this is where I look. Often times the backswing is too short or there isn’t enough turn/tilt to the top. This is the cause of that quick feeling for most players. The fix is this simple drill! Put the club across your shoulders and practice pointing the club slightly behind the ball at the top of the backswing. Make sure the shoulders angle down 30-40 degrees and the head stays relatively stable. From here you can make a smoother transition and hit longer, straighter shots. #Golflesson #golfinstruction #golfcoach #golfpro #golfer
