MEIt really just depends on the athlete and how well their timing is as well as their jumps. I used to start behind the bag up until college because in college, I was timed multiple times and was always a little bit quicker in front. I do feel regardless of how I started, I was still able to steal many bases because my timing was spot on both ways. In the full video I go into detail on why I preferred to start in front but the main reason was I felt stronger having my left foot completely grounded and my right foot utilizing the bag to push off which made my jumps better.

I'm curious, how do you take your leads at 1b?
My take, it's wasted movement to rock back then forward🤷🏾♀️. When leading off, 1st 3 steps are the most important to get a good jump, so to achieve that staying low to the ground with body and posture facing in the direction you want to go will help. If you have issues with timing pitchers release, practice your leads when you see pitcher warming up before game and in between innings!
I love talking base running! Just because you're fast doesn't mean your a great base runner. Base running was an area I always had to improve and continue to be a student of the game

SWIn my opinion, base running has taken the backseat in terms of practicing compared to hitting and fielding. Base running is such an important part of the game, so much so that it could be the difference in winning a baseball game or losing a baseball game.
I tell our guys all the time “CAUSE HAVOC”.
While causing havoc we have to be Aggressive and Smart! As a coach, I rather have the guys that I have to slow down not speed up. Be overly aggressive but be smart in the process! Know when to go and when not to go; know when to get super aggressive with your leads and when not to; know when to try and extend a single to a double and when not to.
Try and live in the pitchers head, and when he comes to get the rent…be at second!
