RENa segunda-feira, 19 de fevereiro, dia seguinte à fala de Lula [que comparou o massacre dos palestinos ao dos judeus cometido por Hitler, na Segunda Guerra], o chanceler Israel Katz convocou o embaixador brasileiro no país, Fred Meyer, para que ele se explicasse.
O episódio teria sido considerado natural na diplomacia – dado que o país se sentiu ofendido pelas declarações do presidente de outro país – caso o embaixador do Brasil não tivesse sido colocado em uma “armadilha”, nas palavras de um diplomata brasileiro.
Em vez de ser chamado para a chancelaria, como seria natural, Meyer foi levado para o Museu do Holocausto, em Tel Aviv. Lá, Katz, com um microfone na lapela, do tipo usado por influencers nas redes sociais, fez um discurso, em hebraico, atacando o Brasil e declarando Lula “persona non grata” no país.
Israel Katz parece ter pouca familiaridade com as regras diplomáticas, embora já tivesse ocupado o posto de ministro das Relações Exteriores do seu país, em 2019, numa atuação bastante controversa.
Ele voltou a ocupar o cargo em janeiro deste ano, no lugar do então chanceler Eli Cohen, que tinha uma relação amistosa com o governo brasileiro e com o embaixador Fred Meyer.
Antes de voltar para a chancelaria, Katz era o titular da pasta de Infraestrutura e Energia, para onde Cohen foi deslocado (Katz também ocupou os postos de ministro dos Transportes e das Finanças).
A troca foi feita para agradar ao grupo radical que cerca Bibi Netanyahu, que exigia um posto mais distinto para seus pares, conforme reportagem do Haaretz, influente jornal israelense, de cunho liberal e forte crítico de Netanyahu e seu governo.
No dia 2 de janeiro, a chamada do Haaretz sobre a nomeação de Katz dizia o seguinte: “O homem que era chamado de fantoche [de Netanyahu], mas que se compara ao rei Herodes, está de volta ao Ministério de Relações Exteriores.”
