EAHonest thoughts of 3 Hatted Restaurant — Brae
@braerestaurant is one of the top handful of Australian restaurants that have been awarded with 3 hats. I’ve had this one on the list for a long time and was super fortunate to have spent Valentines there this year.
Having been exploring the Melbourne food scene and beyond within the fine dining space, I would say after a few different meals, it all started all taste and feel luxe for the price tag, and I’ve always wondered what actually set these restaurants apart. I finally had a chance to actually look into the hatting system and Brae scored 18/20, which was just enough to get them to 3 hats.
People often associate the hats to food — while it does make up most of the scoring I would say the food here was definitely delicious but overall if you’re someone just wanting some good food, it is comparable with a high scoring 2 hatted restaurant. That being said, I did feel like they were clever in terms of technique - not even joking for one of the dishes the flavours changed every bite I took, don’t even know how to explain that one but it was cool 🥹 dining experience and service wise, no question asked and I’d say very deserving. Also, wanted to special mention to their drinks list — some really yummy wines on there and the sommelier was super knowledgeable and gave us some great recs!
We also stayed in their guest suite which was one of the comfiest accomodations I’ve stayed at — the suite was big, the bathroom was AMAZING and it was just such a great place to spend a night over in. It also comes with in-room breakfast with fresh pastries delivered to your door the next morning — this one really topped it off for me and was an experience to remember.
I’m really glad to have ticked this one off the list - I’d say it’s a must try at least once experience. For the experience, not just the food.
