Knee Surgery: 4 Days Post-Op ❤️‍🩹 On Friday, I had knee surgery to clean up damaged cartilage within my knee. They also removed quite a few loose bodies, which are basically fragments of bone or cartilage that have broken off over time. (My knee was a hot mess express from years and years of competitive gymnastics, track, volleyball, marathon training in college, lots of crossfit and weightlifting, and then my more recent era of bodybuilding and running marathons/ultras) Recovery has been pretty easy so far, and thankfully pain or discomfort has been very minimal. Just lots of swelling and bruising. I started physical therapy yesterday and I’ll see my Physical Therapist 2x/week, in addition to daily rehab and stretching exercises. I’m cleared to start training upper body again whenever I feel comfortable, so I’ll probably lean into that towards the end of the week when swelling has gone done a little more. All in all, feeling good. It will be 3-4 month recovery timeline, which is totallllly fine. I’m in zero hurry, and don’t want to rush my healing process. I’ve preached this for years, but playing the long game IS the short cut 💖 Let me know if you like these types of videos so I can keep ‘em coming (: #kneesurgery #kneepainrelief

Rolling around my house lately (thanks to my broken foot + knee scooter) — and also rolling through some thoughts… I recently came across all the conversations happening about being a ‘Type C mom.’ Have you seen these too?? At first, I thought, oh, maybe this just reflects how complex we are as humans that can’t be put in a box. I could definitely relate: I’ve always felt pretty Type A (organized, driven, list-lover), but there are so many parts of my life that feel Type B too (messy, flexible, creative…I don’t come prepared to the beach, none of our glassware matches 🤷🏼‍♀️). But as I dug in deeper, I learned that the ‘Type C’ conversation isn’t just about being a mix of A and B traits…historically in health psychology research it also highlights tendencies like peacemaking, people pleasing, and suppressing your own needs or emotions to maintain harmony. I also noticed a lot of people (especially moms with ADHD) were also sharing in the comments of these posts how much they related too…how sometimes the outside looks calm and collected, while the inside feels like a tangled swirling, a constant shifting of attention, feeling pulled in a hundred directions, hyper-focus sometimes, forgetting simple things, feeling both overstimulated and under-stimulated, and carrying a lot of invisible effort that doesn’t always show. It made me think about how these traits, like most things, can show up in both beautiful and challenging ways: Peacemaker parts of us often can help create safe, loving homes… but might struggle to voice their own needs. Organized parts of us often hold everything together… but might carry an invisible, exhausting mental load. Flexible parts of us can roll with the chaos… but sometimes feel like they’re falling behind or ‘failing’ at impossible standards. Honestly, the more I learn, the more it just reminds me… We are complex. We are layered. We’re allowed to be a little messy, a little bit rigid, a little bit magical, a little bit of everything. Curious if you’ve seen the ‘Type C’ conversations too — what parts (if any) you see yourself in?

There’s nothing that’s broken me more than being away from the game I love. Not the pain. Not the surgeries. Not even the rehab. It was the silence. Watching the world move on while I was stuck relearning how to walk, how to bend my knee, how to trust my body again. I was 15 when it started. A quad tear. That injury forced me to give up playing forward something I loved and switch to goalkeeper just to stay on the field. I told myself it was fine. I told myself I was lucky just to still be playing. Then I tore my right ACL. Then my left. After that, my left knee was never the same. Every run hurt. Every session felt like I was borrowing time from a body that didn’t want to cooperate anymore. In 2022, I had surgery. I put everything into rehab. I followed every rule. I did everything right. It failed. In 2023, I tried again. Another surgery. More hope. More belief that this would be the one. It failed too. And I don’t think people understand what that does to you To give months of your life to rehab, to suffer quietly, to convince yourself this is all worth it… Only to be told, again, that your body didn’t hold up. There were days I cried in my car before rehab. Days I cried after. Days I didn’t want to tell anyone how bad it really was because I was tired of being “the injured one.” I wanted to quit. I wanted to disappear from the game altogether because loving it hurt too much. So I started over. New doctors. New opinions. One last chance. In the fall of 2024, I had a total cartilage reconstruction. And even then, the doctor looked me in the eyes and said he could get me back to normal life… but competing again? That probably wasn’t happening. And I almost accepted that. I almost settled for “functional.” I almost let the dream die quietly. But deep down, I wasn’t done fighting. So I trained anyway. I showed up anyway. I gave everything I had knowing this might be the last time I ever try. And I’m not telling you this because I’ve made it all the wayback yet. I’m telling you because I refused to quit. Because if this body is still moving, if I can still show up, if I can still fight Then this story isn’t over. It’s just getting started.

Not “the good one” and “the bad one.” After ACL surgery or a knee injury, everything becomes: “How does it feel today?” You stop chasing performance. You start chasing protection. I’ve had 5 orthopedic surgeries — I know that shift. But your “bad” knee isn’t broken. It’s rebuilding strength and trust. The goal isn’t to guard it forever. It’s to make it strong enough to earn back its name. 💪 Drop a 😊 if you have a “good” and “bad” side

Anyone that knows me knows I’m not new to injuries. I have played soccer (and almost everyone other sport) my whole life. As a former D1 soccer player I have had multiple knee surgeries, several broken bones, stitches, etc. ‌ Well apparently my body just doesn’t work like it used to before haha! I was helping at my son’s track and field day and stepped funny when jumping up to knock a football away from hitting a kid in the head. I really wasn’t doing anything 🙈 It’s been a few weeks and still not working properly 🤣 Slowly getting back on track. #thisis40 ‌ ‌ #soccerlife #injuryrecovery #athletelife #formerd #1 #player #parentlife #trackandfieldfun #sportsinjuries #kneesurgeryjourney #activelifestyle ‌ Ankle, injury, bone, swollen, bruised, over 40
