Because the lips have little to no stratum corneum, the topmost protective layer covering our skin, the key is intense hydration.
If you want a head start, not a sugar scrub, nothing aggressive, nothing with flavoring or allergens, but with Polyhydroxy Acids at most.
Do that once per day for up to a week.
