Exploring this fairytale town with my sister!
As many of you know, Colmar is famous for being one of the primary inspirations for Howl’s Moving Castle. Walking through these streets felt like stepping right into a Studio Ghibli masterpiece.
These were our favorite spots:
◻︎ Maison Pfister
This iconic building is widely known as a model for the film! Seeing the octagonal tower and wooden balconies in person made us feel like we were part of the story.
◻︎ Collégiale Saint-Martin
The grand church at the heart of the city. Its Gothic spires and intricate roof tiles are said to have inspired the majestic architecture of the royal capital seen in the movie.
◻︎ Place de l'Ancienne Douane
A beautiful square surrounding the old customs house (Koïfhus). The lively atmosphere and the surrounding narrow alleys truly bring to life the bustling market scenes from the film.
◻︎ La Petite Venise
The most charming area in Colmar. Watching the colorful houses reflect in the canal, I half-expected Howl and Sophie to come flying over the rooftops.
◻︎ Marché Couvert de Colmar
We loved this indoor market! Exploring the local Alsace treats with my sister was so much fun—it reminded me of the vibrant energy of the film’s market towns 🧀🍷
