MLComment “COMICS” and I’ll DM you my list of steps for making your own comic! 🖤✌🏻
Here’s how to make your own comic from start to finish: 🖊️📕🔥
1. Research as much as you can about writing & creating comics. A great place to start is with the DC Comics Guide to Creating Comics which covers all the basics to get you started 📖 ✔️
2. Plan out your story including your genre, themes, and characters 🧙🏻♂️🧟♂️🧚
3. Write an outline (this includes planning out the events & important details for both the overall series arc and smaller story & character arcs) ⚔️ 📈
4. Write a script, splitting everything up into pages & panels for each book and adding in dialogue
5. Make a cover & a logo whether you draw them yourself or hire an artist to create them
6. Draw all of your pages (personally I use @clipstudiopaint for this)
7. Add dialogue (I use the CJoeKubert font)
8. Export the pages at 300DPI & find a good printer - I always use & always recommend @mixamprint - their quality is always insane (i’m really picky when it comes to contrast & colours, & they literally print it exactly the way it looks when you draw it which is incredible) & their website is super easy to use. Since the printing process is super stressful so this is huge - you can just choose ‘comic’ or ‘graphic novel’ and enter all your options (I did perfect binding with a 100lb matte cover and 80lb satin interior pages)
9. You can also launch a Kickstarter to try to raise funding for printing costs etc but otherwise wait for your books to come in & you officially have made a comic! 🖤⚔️📖✔️

🎓 Back in my Sheridan days
I used Toon Boom for animation, After Effects for compositing, and Premiere for editing.
🎬 For my 4-year film
I animated in Blender for 3D, painted backgrounds in Photoshop, and Procreate for 2D effects—before Procreate Dreams came out.
🎨 Now, as a self-employed artist:
I focus on tools without monthly subscriptions:
✅ iPad + Procreate – My go-to for backgrounds, and I love how portable it is!
✅ Procreate Dreams – Super intuitive for animation, and I’m really enjoying it so far.
✅ Calipeg – Feels like Toon Boom but way easier to learn. The selection tool is a game-changer!
✅ ToonSquid – Haven’t tried it yet, but I keep hearing it’s great for lip-syncing.
✅ MOHO – Perfect for rigging and cut-out animation. I’m still learning, but I see it becoming a core part of my workflow.
