🧠The brain is a delicate tissue and extremely vulnerable to mechanical trauma. Several layers of protection (the skull, the meninges, and the cerebrospinal fluid between the meninges) are present to cushion and protect it. ⚠️Even a single blow to the head can cause a concussion, intracranial bleeding, or long-term neurological damage. #wittyanatomy #drbenaduce #humanbodyfacts #premed #anatomy101

My recovery was such a rollercoaster and I didn’t know how to get out of it... A voice deep inside me told me that I shouldn’t give up even if it meant having to take a step back. A step back can also mean you’re recovering and your body is preparing you for the two steps forward that are around the corner. Thinking in this way helped me a lot and it was easier to accept the bad days as well. Even though the day was bad, I still got one day closer in my recovery journey. Never forget how far you’ve come. One bad day doesn’t mean you lost all progress. 🥰 ❤️ Performance by Yoann Bourgeois. • • • #concussionrecovery #concussionawareness #concussion #concussions #concussionssuck #headinjury #concussiontreatment #hersenschudding #hersenletsel #tbisupport #concussiontherapy #postconcussionsyndrome #postconcussion #mildtraumaticbraininjury #postconcussionrecovery #concussionsymptoms #tbisurvivor #tbisurvivor #tbirecovery #traumaticbraininjury #traumaticbraininjuryawareness #traumaticbraininjurysurvivor #traumaticbraininjuryrecovery #traumaticbraininjuries #braininjury #braininjuryawareness #braininjurysurvivor #braininjuryrecovery #braininjurysupport #theconcussioncommunity

Concussion = an energy crisis 🧠⚡️ After a concussion, your brain isn’t just “bruised” — it’s energy-depleted, inflamed, and metabolically stressed. Nutrition matters. What helps & why: • Omega-3 fatty acids → calm neuro-inflammation & support cell membranes • Creatine → supports cellular energy reserves in the brain • Zinc → critical for neurotransmission & neurologic recovery • Flavonoids → antioxidants that blunt inflammatory damage • Magnesium → sleep regulation, neuronal signaling, cellular repair Easy food sources: • 🐟 Omega-3s: fatty fish • 🥩 Creatine: red meat • 🥛🥩🥜 Zinc: yogurt, beef, cashews, fortified cereals • 🍓🍇🍊🥬 Flavonoids: berries, grapes, citrus, kale • 🌰🥑🥬 Magnesium: seeds, almonds, spinach, avocados, cashews Rest matters. Sleep matters. But fueling the brain matters too. So for your parents and coaches if you have youth athletes who get a concussion make sure you’re advocating for their recovery process to include adequate hydration and nutrition! #nutrition #concussion #brain #injury #sportsmed #medical #clinic #docthor #doctor #medicalstudent #athlete #coach #recovery

Even a Mild Concussion Could Cause Long-Term Problems At age 32, Carole Starr, a Maine-based teacher and amateur musician, was in a car accident and had a concussion. "Everything in my life changed," she says. She became extremely sensitive to sounds and had to give up playing in an orchestra and singing. She also developed problems with her thinking skills. “When I tried to teach, I looked at the lesson plan I had written, but it didn’t make sense anymore." Starr consulted several health care professionals who dismissed her symptoms, as she had a "mild" concussion. "The first neurologist said to me -- pardon the language -- ‘Get off your ass and get a job.’ He didn’t understand that I was desperately trying to go back to work and failing miserably." She is not alone. A new study published in Neurology dispels the notion that "mild" concussions have no lasting impact on mental skills like thinking, remembering, and learning. Tap link in bio for more.
