I had to know what all the fuss was about with copperheads 😅 This little dude tagged me last night. (The video was from Friday) I Went to the ER about 16 hours after envenomation and got a tetanus shot and they sent me on my way. The doctor said it looked great. It wasn’t terribly painful but my hand and forearm is swollen up pretty good. Pretty sure Budweiser works as antivenin 😅🍻 The funny thing is that I have a few scrapes on my arm from a couple other snake bites this week and they said “have you ever been bitten by a snake before?” So I showed them the previous bite marks and said “this is the 4th time this week” 🤣 now they have a funny story to tell about my dumb ass DONT TRY THIS AT HOME KIDS. Copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix) This venomous snake is one of the most vilified species in the US. They can be identified by the pattern of “Hersey kiss” shaped marks along the side. Most people who are unfamiliar with snakes misidentify all manner of harmless snakes as copperheads and end up killing them. Ironically, when they actually encounter a copperhead, they are unable to identify it correctly. As far as venomous snakebites go, copperhead bites are not that serious (especially compared to some of the bites of venomous snakes in places like India). There are stories of old American herpetologists who used to take a few swigs of whisky and sleep off copperhead bites. That’s definitely not advisable medical aid, but what I’m saying is that there are worse snakes to be bitten by than copperheads. Like most snakes, they are shy and timid, but can get defensive if faced with a threat.
