Crispy cheese cracker 🧀 Ingredients • 1 cup all-purpose flour • 1 cup cheddar cheese, finely grated • 60 g cold butter, cubed • ¼ tsp salt • 2–3 tbsp cold water Instructions 1. Mix dry ingredients In a bowl, combine flour, salt, and grated cheddar cheese. 2. Add butter Rub in the cold butter using your fingers until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs. 3. Make the dough Add cold water 1 tbsp at a time and bring it together into a dough. Do not over-knead. 4. Chill (important for crispiness) Wrap the dough and refrigerate for 20–30 minutes. 5. Roll thin Roll the dough very thin (about 1–2 mm). Thin dough = crisp crackers. 6. Cut shapes Cut into squares, rectangles, or poke small holes with a fork for the classic cracker look. 7. Bake • Oven: 180°C (preheated) • Time: 12–15 minutes • Bake until golden and crisp 8. Cool completely Let them cool on a rack. Stop buying cheese crackers. You can make them with 6 ingredients at home! Homemade cheese crackers are ridiculously easy and cost a fraction of the ones from the supermarket. Most store-bought crackers are full of additives, preservatives and ingredients you can’t even pronounce. These use 6 simple pantry ingredients you probably already have at home. Plus they taste SO much better. This is Part 1 of my homemade snack series where I’m making: • Cheese Crackers • Cheesy Mite Scrolls • Apple Oat Cookies Simple snacks, less additives, and cheaper than the shops. Save this so you can try them later! Cheese Crackers Ingredients • 1 cup freshly milled flour (or plain flour) • 1 cup diced cheese • 1 tsp baking powder • 3 tbsp cold butter • 1 tsp salt • 1 tsp paprika (optional) • 2–3 tbsp cold water Instructions Preheat oven to 180°C fan. Pulse flour, cheese, butter, paprika and salt in a food processor. Add water slowly until dough forms. Roll very thin (between baking paper can help). Cut into small squares. Prick with a fork. Bake 12–15 minutes until crisp and golden. For a rich, flakey, and buttery cracker like @ritzcrackers, it’s important to work your dough very little, until just combined (it’s okay to have visible pieces of butter). For a more dense, light, and snappy cracker like skyflakes, knead your dough until it’s well combined. I don’t know who needs to hear this, but snacks should not be costing you this much! Crackers are one of those little from-scratch things that sound a bit unnecessary until you realise how easy they are, how good they taste, and how much cheaper they are to make at home. We’re talking roughly $1.50 for three trays full! 🤯 SAVE this recipe so you don’t lose it! 🤍 Homemade crackers: 300g plain flour 1/2 tsp garlic powder 1/2 tsp onion powder 1 tsp salt 1 tsp baking powder 160ml tap water 4 tbsp olive oil Preheat oven to 180C (fan forced). Mix all the dry ingredients together in a bowl, then add the water and oil and mix again to roughly combine. Use your hands to bring it together and transfer to a lightly floured surface. Knead it a few times to form a ball then cut the dough in half. Sprinkle the bench lightly with flour and put one half of dough on top. Sprinkle the top with flour, then use a rolling pin to roll it into a rectangle around 3mm thick. Transfer to baking paper the size of your baking tray and sprinkle with salt. Roll it again until it’s 2mm thick. Using a pizza cutter, cut into crackers around 3cm x 3cm. Transfer the baking paper with the dough to a baking tray and spray all over with olive oil. Repeat with remaining dough. Bake for 8 minutes and rotate the trays. After this time, check the crackers frequently to see if the crackers are light golden - the outside crackers will cook faster than the rest so remove them as they finish and transfer them to another tray to cool completely. The crackers will probably need 15ish minutes in the oven. But always go by the colour of them. Although they will harden as they cool, they should not be soft when they’re removed from the oven. Allow to cool completely on the trays. Store in an airtight container or jar for up to a week! The BEST crackers & only 4 ingredients! 👏 The kids go wild over these & such an easy way to use up any discard! I made 4 batches half cheddar & half with pepper jack! 😋 Ingredients: ✨ 1 cup shredded cheese of choice (used cheddar & pepper Jack) ✨1 cup sourdough discard ✨2 Tbsp butter (melted) ✨1/2 tsp salt Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350°. 2. To a medium bowl, add sourdough discard & melted butter and mix until combined. Add salt & cheese and mix. 3. Top baking sheet with parchment paper and spread mixture as evenly and thinly as possible. (I love using a bench scraper) Lastly top with salt. 4. Bake in oven for 10 minutes then remove and cut into squares. I find using a pizza cutter is fast and easy. Making small holes in each cracker is completely optional. 5. Place back in the oven for 20-30 minutes or until golden brown throughout. Some will be ready before others (especially the edges), so just remove a few and place the rest back in the oven! 6. HOMEMADE CHEESE CRACKERS 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded�1 cup all purpose flour�½ tsp salt, optional: more for topping�¼ cup unsalted butter, cold & cubed�2 tablespoons whole milk (cold). —-Preheat oven to 325˚F and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper/silicone mats. —-Add the cheese & flour to a food processor and pulse several times. Add in the salt, milk & butter and pulse a few times, until the dough is crumbly & somewhat formed together. —Optional: wrap and place in fridge for 1 hour. —-Transfer to a lightly floured surface. Roll into a large rectangle, as thin as possible. —-Using a knife or pizza cutter cut into squares. Use the flat end of a skewer to poke a hole all the way through each cracker if desired. (Can make goldfish shape with this same recipe) Sprinkle with more salt if desired. —Bake for 20-23 minutes, until deep golden brown on the bottom of each cracker. If they are too light, they won’t have much crisp. It’s however soft/crispy you like them! ENJOY!!!#homemade #kidfriendly #crackers #kingarthurflour #baking
