When I had my first C-section, I was told, “Your incision is healed. You’re fine.” Six weeks, incision closed, back to normal. That’s what I was told. But as heck didn’t feel normal. My scar was tight, numb, pulling every time I moved. I had a shelf I hated and a core I literally couldnt feel. And the worst part? No one gave me answers. Not at my 6-week check. Not after. But I knew I wasn’t fine. Even as a Nurse Practitioner, my doctors brushed off my concerns about the tightness, the pulling, and the numbness. But I knew scar tissue doesn’t just sit under your incision. It can spiderweb out, get deep, and stick to everything underneath. This drawing isn’t identical to what happened underneath the skin, but it shows how a C-section is more than one cut. There are multiple incisions. And each incision is another chance for scar tissue to grow and spread. And that’s exactly what happened to me. My scar felt glued down. My cshelf stuck out. And I was completely disconnected from my core. Knowing the scar tissue could be causing pelvic floor dysfunction, persistent core weakness, and even impact my posture. Knowing I may keep feeling a pulling sensation for the rest of my life. And the worst part..not being given any real tools to change it. Or told ones didn’t exist. So I did what most postpartum moms are forced to do…. I figured it out myself. I researched everything I could about C-section recovery. What I learned no joke changed so much of my healing. My scar actually softened. My core finally engaged again. And I could feel it. The shelf began to flatten. And honestly, I was shocked. "So... it worked" 😂😂 For Rebecca, and her C section scar, her voice responds to pulling up on the scar and her low abs (previously posted, a few videos back). A partner to the abdominals is the psoas. If we can't pull on our abs during performance, we need to look at other muscles that are involved with the lower abs. The iliopsoas and iliacus connect your abdominals to your fascia, so getting in to proper hip flexion in a squat can support abdominal engagement.
