MISpent half an hour in the 🌞 doing this today
Okay so, I posted video over on TT at the weekend and somehow it seemed to sparked a debate about the worthwhileness (not sure if that's a word, but you get me🤪) of sock darning.
I'll be honest I started to question it too (like negative comments do), but how could I?!
All things are worth mending, aren't they??? And even if it's past the point of mending anymore, then it could always be reused.

ROMending my freaking socks asf🧦
I'm not joking learning how to do this might be the best thing that ever happened to me. I was NOT about to relinquish these dinosaur socks dude. I just couldn't do it. Btw this is by no means a tutorial because I really was just winging it fr. I need to get more holes in my socks in the future exclusively because it means I get to do this again.

LYEasy Upcycle: how to darn a sock. Next week is repair week so this weeks upcycle is an easy repair
You’ll need:
- Needle, thread (can be embroidery thread or thin wool), socks with holes
Steps:
1. Cut a long length of thread
2. Thread your needle
3. Stitch long vertical stitches over the hole
4. Tips: Make sure your stitches are close together, they arent too tight so the sock can still stretch and they are wider than the hole
5. Once the hole is covered get your 2nd thread
6. Weave this in/out through the vertical stitches
7. Each weave across goes over/under the opposite thread from before to securely cover the hole
8. Tips: it may look a bit loose to start but just keep working in to till its fully covered
9. Pull the loose threads/ends into the inside of the sock
10. Knot on the inside
11. Finished!

THSocks! Lightweight socks. I've been on a years long quest to explore what I find to be the longest-lasting, most efficient, durable repair for lightweight socks. So far: patches are my go-to.

But! I often get asked what thread I recommend for darning lightweight socks, and honestly I don't have a satisfactory answer. I use a wool/nylon blend darning yarn that is washable and durable, but very hard to source. So this week, I'm testing out pearl/perle/crochet cotton because: 1) it's tightly plied so is reasonably durable, and 2) it's readily available in craft shops and thrift shops. I'll report back after a few wears/washes.

MII don’t know why this one got lost on my grid, but I really like this stitch so here we go a second time.
Seed stitch is an super easy and quite stretchy stitch. I like it especially for machine knitted socks where the polyester core of the original yarn is still intact.
