DAIt isn’t always clear what to do next. Sometimes when I am doing the right thing, I don’t really know it until later. It’s hard to tell if I’m just wasting my time.
Less often, but at the best of times, I know I am on the target and feel immediately gratified through my actions, whether they will pay off now, in the future, or better yet, both.
More reliably, I can feel in my gut when I am facing a wrong decision.
When I stare into the pantry at midnight...
When my bed is more comfortable than my desk chair...
When the words don’t sing...
When I can call myself a professional, it is because I am using these times as a call to stillness. I have proven to myself that if I slow down and listen, the path forward will reveal itself, and I am amazed by how willing I am to walk it.
When I ignore this call, I feel like there is a lump of kryptonite growing in the pit of my stomach like a tumor. I don’t exercise, I don’t eat well, I don’t sleep well, I waste time on things that make me feel rotten - I can’t create anything honest or true.
I was feeling all of that when I wrote ‘Fine’. I finally took a moment for stillness and let myself feel it, and the words became obvious.
And as crude as it may be, I wan’t to tell you the fuc%ing truth about it.
