The famous pale pink blooms are Yoshino cherries—when 70% of them blossom, we hit peak bloom (expected around March 27-30 this year). It only lasts a few days, but the National Cherry Blossom Festival runs for four weeks, drawing 1.6 million visitors and bringing over $200 million into the city. The trees were a gift from Japan in 1912 and are one of the biggest draws to the city. I highly recommend googling where you can find cherry blossoms in DC because the main areas are going to be packed. Also, who is coming to run @cucb 10 miler?

School districts across the region are closing early, and major sites on the National Mall including the Washington Monument are shutting down early ahead of the threat. Forecasters warn the storms could bring hurricane-force wind gusts and the potential for long-track tornadoes. It’s the most significant severe weather threat for the D.C. metro since spring 2023.
