RO1. DCF Model with Scenario Analysis
Almost all of the high paying finance roles require understaning time value of money and using the same to take decisions. DCF stands for Discounted Cashflow Model which is computation of the present values of cashflows. Understanding and being able to make DCF model gives you an edge over other applicants as this skill shows that you know the following
a. Advanced excel
b. Financial Modeling
c. Taking finance decisions using IRR and other finance metrics
d. Understanding of financial statements
e. Taking sound assumptions
Understanding the DCF model and building scenario analysis in it will be an evidence for recruitors that you know the skills for the high paying and highly competitive jobs.
On the other hand, even if the role you are looking for does not require financial modeling, knowing this always impresses the seniors as you can help them take decisions basis sound financial analysis.
In my personal experience, i have built multiple financial models when specifically asked for and even in some cases where it was not asked specifically but some parts of it were used in different forms. For example forecasting, NPV calculation. This has always helped me in impressing the recruitors and seniors and now you also know this 💪

BA6 steps to create your first own DCF model ⬇️
1. Start with a 3-statement operating model
(P&L, cash flow, balance sheet — you’ll need EBIT, D&A, Capex and ΔNWC)
2. Calculate Unlevered Free Cash Flow
EBIT × (1–t) + D&A – Capex ± ΔNWC
3. Project FCF for ~5 years
based on your operating assumptions
4. Calculate WACC
(weighted cost of equity + after-tax cost of debt)
5. Estimate Terminal Value
(Gordon Growth or Exit Multiple)
6. Discount the FCFs and Terminal Value — then sum them
→ that gives you Enterprise Value

SO1️⃣ WACC (Weighted Average Cost of Capital)
The average return a company must give its investors (debt + equity). It’s basically the company’s cost of money.
2️⃣ EBITDA
Profit before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. Think of it as operating performance without financing and accounting noise.
3️⃣ Cash Flow vs Profit
Profit is what you earn on paper.
Cash flow is what actually hits your bank account.
4️⃣ Working Capital
Money needed to run day-to-day operations.
(Current assets – current liabilities.)
5️⃣ DCF Valuation
A way to value a company by forecasting its future cash flows and discounting them back to today.
6️⃣ Terminal Value
The value of a company beyond the forecast period in a DCF model. Usually the biggest part of valuation.
7️⃣ Beta
Measures how volatile a stock is compared to the market. Higher beta = higher risk.
