WII love runny glazes but with these glazes it’s good to prepare for them. This mug was on stilts because I knew what was going to happen 🚿. You can tell this by the way the drips 💦 land under the mug. This makes it easier to deal with and creates a smooth finish (after grinding them off of course). If this mug was not on stilts, the glaze would have run onto the kiln shelves. The glaze can get bubbly and sharp when it hits the shelf. Most likely chunks of the clay body would have stayed on the kiln shelf after prying it off or, the kiln shelf is now trash unless you can grind what’s left off of the kiln shelf. 😭 🤬 🫠
I’m using a diamond grit bat that mounts right to my wheel. One is a heavier grit (can’t remember what it is) and then I switch to a 400 grit to finish it. You can find these at @diamondcoretools!
Water is key in this process. Some potters have an awesome system where a stream of water is constantly running. I do not have that awesome system. I have an arm. 🙋🏼♀️ good enough.

JUfun fact: I hate pulling handles and anything handle related😤 so when I got @diamondcoretools R12 handle extruder for Christmas I was so excited. Soooooo easy to use and made the dreamiest shape for a nice even handle 🥰 definitely not an ad I just love this tool and wanted to share☕️

FLMy process of trimming medium bowls might have changed forever with the introduction of this @diamondcoretools sticky pad. It’s placed on the wheel-head, which I wipe clean of dust and dry, then the rubbery material is stuck in place and then the bowl positioned over it.
So far so good, I spent a day trimming 50 bowls with it and only had to head over to the sink to wash a few times as the surface started getting quite dusty, which caused the vessel not to stick down so neatly.
It prevents me using three pieces of soft clay to tack the bowl down, which ultimately isn’t a huge change but it easily saves 10-15 seconds per bowl, if not longer, if the pot has to be removed mid trimming and positioned down in place again. New year, new tools, I can’t wait to find out more ways of using it.
