Most people don’t struggle because they’re lazy. They struggle because they can’t think in anything other than extremes. We’ve lost the ability to live in the middle. It’s all or nothing. We don’t slightly adjust our nutrition—we overhaul it overnight. We don’t gradually build fitness—we jump to the most extreme version of it. We don’t layer methods—we pick one and defend it like it’s the only thing that works. And then we wonder why we’re stuck. I see it every time I post about training. I’ll say something like: Zone 2 has a ton of benefits—but it won’t make you fast by itself. And people completely ignore the first part. They latch onto the part that challenges their belief system and react to that. Not because they’re stupid—but because they’re rigid. Because holding two true ideas at the same time is uncomfortable. It requires you to admit: “What I’m doing is good… and also incomplete.” That’s where most people break. Because it’s easier to double down on one thing than it is to integrate multiple things. But progress doesn’t come from extremes. It comes from integration. From understanding that: Easy running builds your base… AND speed work makes you faster. That: Consistency matters more than intensity… AND intensity still has a role. That: What you’re doing might be working… AND there’s still something missing. The people who improve aren’t the ones chasing the perfect method. They’re the ones who can zoom out and say: “What am I NOT doing right now that I need?” That’s it. That’s the difference. You don’t need to burn everything down and start over. You don’t need to pick a side. You need to stop thinking in absolutes.
