Want to learn how to make colour work knitting, with no need to manage pesky floats? Look no further! Double knitting might be the perfect solution! Double knitting is a deceptively simple technique in which you knit two pieces of fabric back to back at the same time, alternating between working on each side with every stitch. This creates lovely thick garments which can have gorgeous colourwork designs that are neat (and inversed) on each side, making it perfect for garments like scarves where both sides are on show! I’ve been offline for a bit as I had a nasty pneumonia which has taken a long time to recover from, but I’ve been asked for more detail on how I double knit for ages so figured I would come back with my most requested video! In this one I am working on the Adventures of Family Fox scarf pattern which I was very kindly #gifted by @katharina.kuntz (whose Over The Garden Wall scarf pattern also features). I’m making it for my husband for Christmas and currently have about 400 rows left to do- do you think I’ll make it in time?? 2가지 색으로 더블니팅 하는 법 How to Double Knit with Two Colors 2. 오른손걸기 두 가닥의 실을 모두 오른손에 걸고 뜨는 방법입니다. 2가닥의 실을 함께 잡고 편물 앞,뒤로 움직이며 겉뜨기와 안뜨기를 번갈아 뜨게 됩니다. 익숙한 분들에게는 장력 조절이 비교적 쉽고 실의 흐름을 눈으로 확인하기 좋아 안정적으로 뜰 수 있는 것이 장점입니다. 다만 코를 뜰 때마다 실을 움직이는 동작이 필요하기 때문에 컨티넨탈 방식에 비해 속도가 조금 느리게 느껴질 수 있고, 두 가닥의 실을 오른손에서 정리하며 다루는 데 익숙해지는 시간이 필요할 수 있습니다. When double knitting with two colors, the English method holds both yarns in the right hand. The yarn is wrapped around the needle in a throwing motion, allowing you to choose the color for each stitch as you alternate knit and purl stitches. For knitters who are familiar with this style, tension control can feel easier and the yarn movement is easy to see, making it a stable and comfortable way to knit. However, because the yarn needs to be moved for each stitch, it can feel a bit slower than the Continental method, and it may take some time to get used to managing two strands in the right hand.

If you want to make cosy, completely reversible colourwork with no floats but are struggling with following double knit patterns, let me share with you my tips and tricks! (To note, this is for mirrored double knitting. You can make different patterns on each side, but that is much more complex and not covered in this video as I haven’t yet dared to attempt it! 😅) One of the great things about double knitting is that as the image shows on both sides, it doesn’t matter so much which is the right side and which is the wrong side, you can kind of choose that when you make it. The only thing to watch out for is that the wrong side will be a mirror image, so particularly if your design has text make sure the colour way you want on the front is the right side! DETAILS OF PROJECTS SHOWN 💖 Patterns shown here are the over the garden wall scarf by @katharina.kuntz and the Twilight inspired scarf by me (not yet released). My main projects use Cascade 220 fingering weight wool (regular, not super wash) on 2mm needles. I made a bunch of modifications to my red hat and folks have asked me to share… My red hat mods: 1. Knitting the DK size using worsted weight yarn for a denser fabric. Follow the dk instructions and use the size 6 needle. I used @sandnesgarn Atlas yarn. 2. I knit the ribbing 1-1.5” longer than the pattern. 3. About 3” into my ribbing, I worked 3 rounds of double knitting so my fold would be crisper and stay in place. Here’s what that looks like: Round 1: * sl1 pw wyib, p1* Round 2: *k1, sl1 pw wyif* Round 3: as round 1 4. I reworked the decreases. I did 4 decrease columns using a center double decrease (sl1 kw, k2tog, psso the k2tog). I also worked one round of knit stockinette between decrease rounds. 5. I blocked it flat to make it look like it had 2 edges and a pointy top. 6. I used 4 strands of yarn for a smaller tassel. I wish, but they don’t call it slow fashion for nothing! 😅 I definitely feel the pressure sometimes of not getting pieces finished quickly enough, which is silly because the whole point is the doing! Like, why would I want to rush through the process, when the process is what I enjoy? I have to catch myself in these moments and remind myself that I’m knitting for the love of knitting, and not necessarily knitting to get to the final product (which is probably why in the time I’ve been crafting I’ve given away more than I’ve kept). I think a lot of the pressure and urge to rush through a piece is part of a bigger problem of always feeling the need to be productive that is engrained into my wider life. I really try and resist giving into that in my knitting, as I’m mindful that knitting should be an escape from that pressure, rather than another way that it manifests in my day. Don’t get me wrong - it’s not that I don’t love the final product, or that I’m not excited to see a piece done, it’s more so that often a significant proportion of the time I will spend with a piece is the time I spend making it, so I might as well enjoy it! Double knitting has been a great practice in patience for this, as it naturally takes twice as long as regular colourwork. Do you guys also feel yourselves putting pressure on yourself when you’re knitting, and if so what reminders do you give yourself that it’s ok to slow down? 😅 #craft #knitting #knit

Each square in the chart means a pair of stitches, one knit and one purl, in opposite colors. When I knit flat, I use the Eastern style because it’s more comfortable for me, but Continental works too 👌Just don’t forget, when you purl, move both yarns to the front. . Dwustronny żakard ✨🌈 Przerabiam dwoma kolorami tworząc dwustronną dzianinę. Na początku to wydaje się trudne, ale z czasem zapamiętujemy, że jedna krateczka na wzorze to para oczek, czyli prawe i lewe oczko przerabiane w przeciwnych kolorach.
