"Dreadful" was one of my June picks from @aardvarkboo — What was the last book you read that made you laugh? 🦑𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐈𝐄𝐖🦑 Genre: Fantasy 347 pages “Dreadful” was one of my June picks from @aardvarkbookclub , and I was so excited that @saras__shelves agreed to buddy-read this with me. 🦑𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭? This book gave me huge Monty Python vibes. I couldn’t stop laughing at all the ridiculous hijinks, and reading it with a buddy who shared my sense of humor made it even more enjoyable. The entire plot is flippant, absurd, comical, and magical. It will only work if you enjoy improv, slapstick comedy, and quirky fantasy. It’s not exactly a cozy fantasy since there are some dark moments, but @caitlin.rozakis delivers these heavier moments in a way that feels authentic and appropriate for the tone of the novel. 🦑𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞? The one thing I was not prepared for was the really long chapters. Once I became invested in the plot around the 35% mark, I didn’t mind this as much, but it certainly slowed down the overall pace. 🦑𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐨𝐭𝐞: “He thought of small girls with fireballs and wondered if it would make for a safer or more terrifying world.” 🦑𝐃𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤? This book is for a very specific audience. If you like satirical humor and Monty Python-type dialogue, then “Dreadful” is for you.
