Peel drop is an easier pitch to learn than the turnover drop, and can be just as effective if you learn how to throw it right. This was one of my best pitches, and often my first pitch strike thrown inside to a right handed batter. I got a lot of ground balls, foul balls, and swinging misses from this pitch. Instead, we dedicated the day to spin work—because even when you’re not at 100% in one area, you can still find ways to improve. For drop ball spin, we went through a progression to really work in spin tightness and efficiency: ➡️ Heavy ball – Forces you to feel your fingers working and really emphasize tight spin. ➡️ 14-inch ball – If you’re not efficient, this ball won’t spin right. Forces you to get on top of it and stay through longer. ➡️ Tiny ball – You have to use your fingertips. No forcing it, just pure spin. ➡️ Regular ball – Put it all together, with a little step-through at lower intensity to focus on snap and spin direction. Even though Alivia couldn’t use her legs at full power, she was able to use her snap at 100%, and her drop ball got better because of it. So remember—just because you’re dealing with an injury, feeling tired, or short on time doesn’t mean you can’t get better. There’s always something to work on. You just have to be willing to adjust and make the most of what you can do!! #softball #pitching #pitchingdrills #pitchingmechanics #pitchingcoach #pitchinglessons #dropball
