LOHere’s how to see the BEST of Drumheller in just 1 day 🦖🦖
Start your day at the @royaltyrrell museum of palaeontology. Plan for a good 1.5 to 2 hours to tour the inside of the museum.
Then join one of the guided hikes. I recommend the Fossil Hunting Hike when travelling with kids
Head back in town for lunch. If you like Indian food, I highly recommend Sam’s Kitchen.
It’s now time to climb the @worldslargestdinosaur and enjoy the view from the top.
When you are ready, drive on the Hoodoo Trail (AB-10) to reach the hoodoos. Enjoy the views, but also make sure to walk around and to the top of the hill. The landscape is amazing.
Before heading back to Calgary, stop at the Horseshoe Canyon.

MANow’s the time to visit — because this massive T. rex in Drumheller, Alberta is rumored to close in 2029.
We climbed 106 steps inside her towering frame and looked out through her jaws for an unforgettable view of the badlands — totally worth the $15 family admission.
Affectionately nicknamed Tyra — this enormous dinosaur DOES hold an official Guinness World Record for the title of the largest dinosaur statue in the world!
Drumheller is full of prehistoric charm, and this dino has been an icon since 2000. If she’s on your bucket list, don’t wait — the countdown might already be on.

Drumheller is a always a lot of fun to explore! I’ve barely scratched the surface, but here are some top highlights you won’t want to miss ✨
1️⃣ Star Mine Suspension Bridge is a cool, short walk across the Red Deer River on a historic bridge.
2️⃣ The @lcsaloonwayne is 15 minutes outside of Drumheller in the ghost town of Wayne. It’s a fascinating stop with some stories to tell!
3️⃣ The Willow Creek Hoodoos are fun to explore! There are some more fascinating hoodoos in Dinosaur Provincial Park which is about 2 hours from Drumheller.
4️⃣ @royaltyrrell is a must-visit! It’s Canada’s only museum dedicated to ancient life and has one of the world’s largest collection of dinosaurs on display 🦕
5️⃣ Horsethief Canyon has a ton of hiking trails and beautiful views over the badlands. We didn’t have time to hike, but I would love to come back and explore more.

CAA 25-metre-tall dinosaur sculpture that has long been the crown jewel of Drumheller’s tourism industry will soon be extinct.
The Drumheller & District Chamber of Commerce says the World’s Largest Dinosaur attraction, also known as Tyra, will close at the end of its current lease in December 2029.
The gift shop and visitor information centre are also set to close.
Tyra, a 65-tonne sculpture that’s more than four times larger than an actual Tyrannosaurus Rex, was installed 25 years ago.
Officials say the attraction has been a cornerstone for the community, investing thousands in admission and gift shop sales back into the community.
The Chamber says it is committed to working to preserve Tyra’s legacy for years to come.
“Tyra’s story isn’t ending—it’s evolving,” said Heather Bitz, executive director of the Chamber.
“We’ll be looking for ways to honour the memories, stories, and community impact that Tyra has created over the years.”
In the years leading up to the end of the lease, the Chamber will be looking at ways to memorialize Tyra and preserve the stories and symbols connected to the site.
Last year, officials hosted a Guinness World Record attempt to have the most people dressed as dinosaurs gathered in a single place.
The attempt was found to be unsuccessful due to a technicality, despite having more than 3,000 people dressed up.

My husband Jason grew up in Saskatoon, Canada, and he often talked about childhood road trips to Alberta and the huge impression the Royal Tyrrell Museum made on him.
This summer, he was so excited to finally share that same wonder with our kids as we stopped in Drumheller on our way to visit his family.
I was a little skeptical at first — but the museum blew me away. From world-record fossils to incredible exhibits, it’s a place where prehistoric life comes alive. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in Alberta (or if you have a huge dinosaur fan in your crew).
