SNHere is Ray ( @the_cobraman ) with the wiliest of the monacled cobras he extracts venom from. This cobra was given the name *CAUTION* - written in all caps just like and all - on his rack - because he is just …. squirmy and sassy … and needs to be handled with “caution”. ⚠️⛔️
On the very morning of this interaction, I had asked Ray about the scar on his arm. He told me the entire story of his Eastern Diamondback envenomation (I believe it was his 44th envenomation) and how it had happened when he had grabbed the snake “backwards”.
Hours later, Caution was being his uncooperative self. It led to Ray having to grip him in the exact same maneuver as what led to his EDB bite. 😳😱
Thankfully, Ray did not get bit on this day by Caution, that rascally monocled cobra. 🙏🏽
Watching this video, you can feel the intensity as he works with Caution to extract venom.
Always calm, yet quick… matching the cobra’s moves second by second…. Ray makes it look easy somehow. 🤯
You’ll notice Caution does briefly make contact with Ray’s arm at the very beginning of the video which is why I reference “a kiss”. 💋
