Built in 1998 as a collaboration between artist Eric Orr and high‑voltage engineer Greg Leyh, this iconic installation stands about 11.5 m (38 ft) tall and houses a 130,000‑watt Tesla coil that can produce up to around 3 million volts on its spherical top terminal. The structure isn’t just engineering—it's art: the huge coil is integrated into a towering column capped by a stainless steel electrode capable of spectacular electrical discharges that generate dramatic artificial lightning and crackling high‑voltage bursts when operated. While it’s on private land and not regularly open to the general public, Electrum has been featured in documentaries that explore the intersection of science, electricity, and artistic expression.
