A little structural engineering lesson! Jettying is where upper level walls are shifted out beyond the area of the floor below. Beams supporting these walls have to be cantilevered out past the lower level walls. When a structure utilizes jettying - a negative bending moment is created which causes the beam to bend upwards. The positive bending moment from regular floor load is counteracted by the negative moment from the wall supported at the end of the cantilever. This can drastically reduce the depth of beams needed for floor framing! (Yes I know this is technically not a propped cantilever - it’s more like a cantilever with a back span!) #lego #structuralengineering #brickgineer

Traditional lifting from the outside often isn’t possible: tunnels are narrow, trenches are tight, and the pipes can weigh several tons. The solution? Stop treating the pipe as cargo and start treating it as part of the transport system. 📌 In this video you’ll see: – Wheel Retraction: The machine carefully retracts its wheels to fit inside the pipe, a process requiring millimeter precision. – The Lift: Hydraulic wheels extend to press against the inner wall, lifting the entire pipe off the ground. The machine and the load become one. – Moving Together: Inside the pipe, the operator drives, steering with full awareness of the pipe’s length, weight, and inertia. – Tunnel Application: Segmental tunnel liners are transported this way, allowing new sections to reach the tunnel face without ever turning around. Why does this matter? External lifting needs space and clearance that often doesn’t exist. Moving from the inside works in the only space available—the interior of the pipe itself. The pipe handler becomes both vehicle and support system, carrying massive loads safely and efficiently. Each step—from wheel retraction to lift, movement, and placement—represents decades of design, stress testing, and precise engineering. For a few minutes, the operator lives inside the pipe, controlling tons of steel with skill and precision. When the pipe sits perfectly in place, the machine backs out, wheels retract, and the next journey begins.
