Harish Rana, a final-year engineering student at Chandigarh University, fell from the fourth floor of his PG building in August 2013 while talking to his sister on the phone during Raksha Bandhan. Since the accident, he remained in a coma, surviving only with medical support and nutrition, with no signs of recovery.
After years of caring for their son and witnessing his prolonged suffering, Harish’s parents approached the court seeking permission to withdraw life support. Considering the family’s pain and the medical condition, the Supreme Court allowed passive euthanasia, acknowledging the parents’ years of dedication and emotional struggle.
