🧬 Seven Million Years of Becoming Human 🌍⏳ Before cities. Before language. Before fire. There were footsteps in the African dust. Human evolution isn’t a straight line — it’s a branching story written in bone, stone, and DNA. 🦴 ~7 Million Years Ago: Early hominins begin walking upright — a silent revolution 🌍 Africa: The cradle where our lineage first emerged 🧠 Brain Expansion: From small primate minds to the complex thinking of Homo sapiens 🔥 Tool & Fire Masters: Survival shifts from instinct… to intelligence 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Coexisting Species: We once shared Earth with Neanderthals — now only one remains We are not “descended from apes.” We share a common ancestor — a forgotten primate branching into different paths of life. Fossils whisper fragments. Genetics fills the gaps. But the full story? Still unfolding. From Ardipithecus to Australopithecus… From early Homo to modern humans… Seven million years of adaptation, extinction, survival. And now — we are the last of our tribe. 💬 If you could travel back to one stage of human evolution, where would you go? 👉 Follow @decodingwrlds as we decode the darkest and deepest truths of our origins. 🎥 Video Credit: DM for credits/removal to the real owner. . . . #decodingwrlds #humanevolution #ancientorigins #prehistoric #sciencefacts

This is like an episode of Prehistoric Love Island A new study published in Science discovered that the most of the Neanderthal DNA in our bodies came from men, implying that Neanderthal men were strongly attracted to modern human women and possibly vice versa. We’ve been carrying the ancient traces of their “coupling” in our DNA for the last 50,000 years 🤯 Alexander Platt et al. ,Interbreeding between Neanderthals and modern humans was strongly sex biased.Science391,922-925(2026).DOI:10.1126/science.aea6774 #ancient #anthropology #humans #ancienthistory

Tens of thousands of years ago, we were not the only humans on Earth. Alongside our direct ancestors, Homo sapiens, there were at least five other human species — Neanderthals, Denisovans, Homo floresiensis (“hobbits”), Homo naledi, and Homo erectus. Each was uniquely adapted to their environment, with their own tools, survival strategies, and even cultural expressions. Neanderthals, for instance, buried their dead and created symbolic art. Denisovans left behind traces in our DNA, influencing traits in modern humans. Homo floresiensis, standing barely a meter tall, thrived on remote islands. Homo naledi had surprisingly complex behavior despite their small brains, and Homo erectus, one of the longest-living species, mastered fire and migration. Yet, over time, all but Homo sapiens vanished — likely due to climate shifts, competition for resources, and possibly interbreeding. Today, we are the sole survivors of a once-diverse human family tree, carrying fragments of their legacy within us. A new study led by Lionel N. Di Santo, Claudio S. Quilodrán, Paola Cerrito, and Mathias Currat proposes an innovative approach to spatially locating these interbreeding episodes. Combining population simulations with data from thousands of ancient genomes, the work demonstrates that, thanks to the geographic distribution of Neanderthal DNA, it is possible to determine where this hybridization occurred, even tens of thousands of years later. Paleogenomics has confirmed that these encounters left a profound imprint on our genomes. Neanderthals and Homo sapiens diverged around 600,000 years ago. Despite this long evolutionary separation, both groups maintained the ability to interbreed. The first migrations of modern humans from Africa to the Levant and Europe, documented at sites such as Apidima, Misliya, Skhul, and Qafzeh, occurred 100,000 years ago. These early migrations, however, contributed very little to the gene pool of present-day populations. The decisive contact occurred approximately 60,000 years ago, during the great expansion of Homo sapiens across Eurasia. Since then, the genomes of non-African humans have retained between 1% and 3% Neanderthal DNA. These inherited sequences are responsible for the diverse traits we exhibit, such as immune response, skin pigmentation, and adaptation to high altitudes. The authors evaluated three main indicators: the introgression ratio (PI), the length of introgressed segments (LIS), and the variation in these lengths between different individuals (VIS). Using computer simulations that recreated the expansion of modern humans into Neanderthal territories, they demonstrated that the introgression ratio generates a very specific spatial pattern. The researchers identified a pattern consistent with a single, prolonged phase of interbreeding. The results support the existence of a large hybrid zone that extended from the Near East to Western Europe and Central Asia.
