Top tips to repair your skin barrier👇 1. Completely stop using actives eg retinoids, exfoliants, vitamin c until your barrier is healed - even if you are using a retinoid for acne you should stop until your barrier is healed because a damaged barrier can cause breakouts and you need a healthy barrier first to effectively treat acne 2. Stick to a simple routine including a gentle cleanser - don’t use any harsh cleansers, scrubs or peels these can further damage your barrier 3. Use a barrier repair cream until your skin is no longer tight, flaky, dry, peeling or stinging (see my post from 22nd Nov for best barrier creams and 25th Nov for best for acne) 4. If barrier creams break you out use lighter barrier repair products like toners and serums instead 5. Wait till your barrier is healed (this can take 2-6 weeks) before introducing exfoliants and retinoids again and when you do be super cautious (start with only x1 product 2x per week and increase as tolerated - it’s also best to start with a gentle active like PHA or a low % retinal). A big cause of barrier damage is using actives that are too strong for your skin, using them daily or even using multiple actives at once when you don’t have the tolerance (and maybe never will) so you need to start low and slow to avoid damage and see what you tolerate Let me know if you have any questions in the comments ❤️ #damagedskinbarrier #skinbarrierrepair #skintok #barrierrepair #acne #skinbarrier #acnetreatment #retinol #skincaretips #dryskin #winterskincare

Not all exfoliants work the same, and the biggest difference often comes down to the ingredient being used. In Western skincare, you’ll often see higher concentrations of chemical exfoliants like: 🧪 AHA: (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) - water-soluble acids like glycolic or lactic acid that help smooth and brighten skin. 🧼 BHA: (Beta Hydroxy Acids) oil-soluble, great for clearing out pores and congestion. 🌿 PHA: (Poly Hydroxy Acids) larger molecules that exfoliate more gently. Eastern formulations tend to take a more barrier-friendly approach, often using lower concentrations, PHAs, or fruit enzymes and acids for gradual exfoliation. The goal of exfoliation is to remove dead skin cells, revealing fresher, brighter skin and helping the rest of your skincare work more effectively. But if you have very sensitive or rosacea-prone skin, exfoliating acids may not be suitable, and gentler formulations are usually the better place to start. #skincareeducation #exfoliation #skincareingredients #kbeauty #skincaretips

Tips for saying goodbye to congested skin 😮‍💨 1️⃣ Speed up cell turnover Use something that actually pushes clogged pores out. Exfoliants like retinoids or BHAs help speed up cell turnover. When it comes to retinoids, consistency matters more than the product name. → Start slow: 1–2x a week with a lower strength 2️⃣ Remove the causing products Check your moisturizers and makeup first. If congestion keeps coming back, I switch to minimal ingredient formulas. Fungal-acne-safe products can help too. 3️⃣ Double cleanse at night Sunscreen + base makeup residue can trap comedones. Oil cleanse first, then follow with a gentle water-based cleanser. 4️⃣ Protect your skin barrier Congestion doesn’t thrive in a healthy skin environment. Don’t overdo exfoliation— use barrier-friendly products on off days. 5️⃣ Hydration matters more than you think Dehydrated skin overproduces oil. Light, watery hydration helps prevent new bumps. Hope it helps 🤍 #skintexture #closedcomedones #cloggedpores #koreanskincare #koreanskincare

Comment SEND and I’ll send you my top 4 uses for Glycolic Acid AND my favorite ones😍 Glycolic acid is one of the most researched chemical exfoliants in dermatology for a reason. As an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), it works by dissolving the bonds between dead skin cells, helping to improve skin texture, unclog pores, fade dark spots, boost collagen production, and support overall skin renewal. Consistent use can help with fine lines, acne prone skin, dullness, and uneven tone, making it a powerful ingredient for anti aging and glow✨ Whether you’re targeting hyperpigmentation, breakouts, rough texture, or loss of radiance, glycolic acid can support smoother, clearer, more even looking skin over time. As always, introduce slowly and pair with daily SPF to protect your results. Save this for your skincare routine refresh.

Take better care of your skin. It does not need or want any of this! 😳 🧽Facial scrubs: Create microtears in your skin, use chemical exfoliants like glycolic acid for better results 🐄Beef tallow: Just fat, there are so many easier to use options like squalane, shea butter, plant oils 🪻Fragrance: Our nose loves it, does nothing for our skin. 🐑Lanolin: Sheep sebum with a high rate of allergic reaction when used on injured skin, which is when most people use it. 🔵Hyaluronic acid serum: Don’t need it as a stand alone product, great in a moisturizer. 🫧Double cleansing: Get a face wash that works the first time. 💦Hydrating serums: Isn’t this what your moisturizer should do? 💰$250 eye creams: A well-formulated face cream will work just as well. 🧪Peptides in every skincare product: This just confuses your skin. Pick one if you have to join this trend. 🥵Base tans: Just damages your skin, try a spray tan. 🙅‍♀️Picking pimples: Increases your risk of scarring and a slows our healing.

I understand if you’re a TJ Maxx fanatic, but I do not understand the amount of facial scrubs they sell here with pumice or walnut shells. I’m concerned about these physical exfoliants potentially being too abrasive for the skin. If they are very finely ground up and you don’t have sensitive skin, it could be okay. But if the particle size is larger, I’m concerned about micro-tears in the skin or a lot of irritation. If you have sensitive or acne-prone skin, consider using gentler exfoliants such as chemical exfoliants (AHAs, BHAs) or enzyme-based exfoliants. #tjmaxx #tjmaxxskincare #dermatologistnightmare #skincaredonts
