Me and my roommate drove the 3.5 hours to Portland Oregon to see Christopher Marley’s exhibit “Exquisite Creatures” at Oregon’s Museum of Science and Industry. To say it simply we were BLOWN AWAY. Easily the coolest exhibit I have ever seen. The animals are ethically and responsibly sourced. Working with fisherman and tribes to collect bycatch and other discarded animals. He doesn’t taxidermy ANY OF THEM. They are all preserved. The entire time me and my friends were gobsmacked at his preservation methods. The man won’t share his secrets and WE GET IT! Truly blown away at how he achieved this. As biologists who have preserved many animals, we have our thoughts. I will not be shutting up about this anytime soon 💅 #OMSI #science #animals #art

A day full of wonder, with the most wonderful lady! Sharon and I explored the planet’s biodiversity in a fascinating new way at Exquisite Creatures, and incredible exhibition created by artist, naturalist, and author Christopher Marley at @sciencemuseummn / @christophermarleystudio ❤️🙏 Nature is full of wondrous beauty. From the towering mountains to the vast oceans, from the lush rainforests to the arid deserts, there is something awe-inspiring about the natural world. And it is not just the physical beauty of nature that is so captivating, but also the incredible diversity of life that it sustains. There are millions (if not billions?) of species of plants and animals on Earth, each one unique and precious. These species are not just beautiful to look at, but they also play essential roles in our ecosystems. They help to regulate the climate, purify our water, pollinate our crops and sustain life…yes, human life. Sadly we are destroying habitats, polluting the environment, and over-hunting and overfishing. As a result, species are going extinct at an alarming rate. Walking through this exhibition made me think that one day, if we continue on our existing path of overconsumption and destruction, many of these beautiful creatures might only exist in a museum. I certainly hope we can avoid this. We need to work together to preserve nature before it is too late. We can do this by reducing our impact on the environment, supporting sustainable development, and protecting endangered species, doing things to help the planet and each other.
