Retro Rewind TV: The Fall Guy! Hooper, with Burt Reynolds, is one of my all-time favorite movies. I have no idea why. It’s one of those inexplicable things. I love it. I’ve bought it in about 10 different formats. I still watch it. With that in mind, you know that The Fally Guy, starring Lee Majors as Colt Seavers, had to have been one of my all-time favorite 80s TV shows. And it was. The show kicked butt - it had Colt. It had a cool truck. It had tons of action and excitement. And, possibly most important, Heather Thomas as Jody. There was no one hotter in a bikini than Ms. Thomas. Even cooler, Lee Majors sang the Fall Guy theme song. He may not have had the greatest voice even, but he was at least as good as Bradley Cooper, and it just fit. I will admit to singing Unknown Stuntman at karaoke more than once...and it is always glorious. What was your favorite Lee Majors role? The show starred Lee Majors as Colt Seavers, a stuntman who worked as a bounty hunter on the side. While Heather Thomas wasn’t a main cast member of The Fall Guy, she was a major 80s TV star known for her role in The Fall Guy’s era counterpart action show The Fall Guy contemporaries like The A-Team style programming — but she is most famously associated with The Fall Guy-era television and her lead role in The Fall Guy’s contemporary series The Fall Guy (correction below). To clarify, Heather Thomas is best known for starring as Jody Banks in The Fall Guy itself alongside Lee Majors 💥✨. Her character was smart, athletic, and often involved in the action, helping balance the show’s mix of stunts, humor, and adventure. She became a major pop-culture icon of the 1980s thanks to that role, combining glamour with an active, capable on-screen presence 🚀📺.

After yesterday’s viral AJ Bakunas high-fall reel, here’s the full story behind Hooper (1978) and Hollywood’s real stunt legends. The film is lightly based on Hal Needham’s (director) experiences as a stuntman, but the film’s main character is modeled after stuntman Buddy Joe Hooker, who just happens to do many of the stunts in the film himself. This film is also a tribute to Jock Mahoney (who Brian Keith’s character, Jocko Doyle, is modeled after), who really is Sally Field’s stepfather in real life. The film is also notable for the fact that it inspired a successful television series, The Fall Guy which starred Lee Majors. The show’s theme song’s, “The Unknown Stuntman” lyrics including references to both Reynolds (the star of Hooper) and Farrah Fawcett (who worked with Hal Needham and Burt Reynolds in Cannonball Run), Majors’ ex-wife. As a side note, Hal Needham also started using bloopers during the end credits of his films, and this one presented many of the outtakes from several of the stunts. Another “winner of my Best Stunt Awards”, Jackie Chan, saw this technique used when he worked with Hal Needham and Burt Reynolds in Cannonball Run 2 and has used the technique ever since to highlight the stunts by him and the Jackie Chan Stunt Team in his movies. #fyp #moviestunts #classicmovies #stunts #hooper

Retro Rewind Film Flashback! We talked about Lethal Weapon vs Die Hard earlier this week and it made me think about this scene. This sequence was so well written because it and the following bit with Murtaugh so perfectly spelled out who and what Riggs was without any significant exposition. We didn’t need to be told that the guy was a Vietnam Vet with some PTSD - this showed it all. Sure, Mel Gibson went a little Riggs-crazy later in life but when Lethal Weapon came out it was one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s still one I will go back and watch once a year because it is so good. What was your favorite Mel Gibson role?
